There are 4 types of characters in this world that players may take the perspective of-

The Lightles
Normal people who've decided, for whatever reason, to take up the mantle of a Guardian, just without the powers granted by the light. Perhaps they live outside the safety of the Last City, or have decided they thirst for adventure, or perhaps they just wish to help the Vanguard. The Lightless fall into two categories, Humans and Exo. 

The Awoken
Residents of the Dreaming City, a space-time anomaly converted these former humans into Awoken, their bodies infused with Light.

The Eliksni 
The Eliksni are an alien race, and of a house of which has allied themselves with those of the Last City and Dreaming City.

The Guardians
The Lightbearers, Machine-Spawn, Risen, and Protectors. All names Guardians have been given over the years they've served the Last City.
