Albert McDonald was a normal man who graduated from engineering in the Akvar University. He wasn't a bright student, but he wasn't bad either. He worked out three times a week or so, a habit he got since he started university. He had good relations with his parents and even had a girlfriend, Christine Smith, a small apartment in the outskirts of Akvar, a car and a little cat.
By all means, Albert was prone to live a normal life, had it not been because he accepted a job at the construction giant FinBloc. The pay was good, and the benefits were... acceptable. But he was not prepared to the internal chaos of that company.
Albert always tried to be a diligent man, but the environment in that company was severely toxic. Accounting and Marketing were always sending projects to his department and cancelling them days later when he already started making arrangements to begin them, sometimes for idiotic reasons such as the expenditures of previous projects that had been canceled after another failed project had absorved by- ugh, he couldn't even wrap his mind around how many projects had been canceled, begun and stopped in the same month. He counted around 42 projects that lasted a week in the first month, then he lost count.
The extremely stressful work environment caused Albert to have numerous manic meltdowns in his office where he would damn both the accounting and marketing, finbloc, and even his own parents for birthing him into this hellish city. Thankfully, he still had his girlfriend to provide him some mental support.
This would go on for three years or so until one day Human Resources decided to make an orientation trip to the forest. He of course, was forced to join even if he very much didn't want to, and got paired with HR employee and off time rockstar Charles Lumberjack. He was so positive through the whole experience even if he had no idea about where were they going. Why in the heavens was he THIS optimist! In THIS company?! Does this man live in his own world?!
His overbearing positivity, ironically, caused Albert another anxiety attack, as he grabbed a stick and started hitting a random tree to try to calm himself down. As fate might have it, the stick broke and hit him directly on his head. He fell to the floor, and was unconscious for 30 minutes.
Charles quickly went to aid Albert, and was deeply relieved when the man opened his eyes. However, something had happened during those 30 minutes. The man got up and begun yelling the name of a long gone Eukelesian Emperor and a mission to establish some colony in the middle of Khortos and find gold for the glory of the crown. He suddenly also became completely unknowledgable of current day technology, such as his own PDA, as he punched it when he pressed a button and his background picture appeared, as a involuntary reaction.
However he became pretty good for some reason with more rudimentary equipment, and he was able to perfectly pinpoint their position with the compass and map, and swiftly led them out of the forest. Albert then left because he had to "fulfill a royal prerrogative", and so Charles simply marked it down as a 'personal affairs' day.
He however did not come to work for the rest of the week, and next time someone in the office heard of him, apparently he had sold his house and car and spent what he made in purchasing a horse and a historically accruate full plate armour - not only for him but also the horse, as the madman was seen abandoning the imperial capital yelling "for the grace of Orthi!" and trying to recruit people for an imperial expedition.
The next few years he spent them plundering and raiding the desert that expands around the main players of the area, as he tried to find gold for the emperor.
While no actual recollection appears of his whereabouts, sometimes one can hear a story about a man in plate armour building a trebuchet with other common criminals to raid a convoy, or at some point that carabels began to rain on a random isolated farmstead.
Crazy tales of the wastes, certainly.
