The editor of the weather section for KCBS-TV stares at his monitor: Their source for the weather forecast once again sent way too much information about the moon cycle - something that they didn't even report on unless it's Halloween or something special like a blood moon. Why would they? Nobody in their right mind would walk through Los Angeles at night. Sure, maybe they'd drive, but then the weather and especially the current moon phase wouldn't matter.
The next day, at 5:00am, Gabriel Picadora gets out of bed. He turns on the TV and sighs: "No information about the moon again... Why won't they talk about it?" before leaving his house for a jog. He obviously knows why they don't talk about the moon, yet he hoped that maybe it'd be helpful if there were any other werewolves out there. Every now and then there's a story about one, but it's usually chalked up people trying to get attention. Who knows? Maybe he actually is the only werewolf. He never really knew how to feel about the idea. On one hand, he'd have nobody to talk about it with. On the other hand, if he's the only one, nobody else would have to spend full moons chained to a wall or whatever would be deemed strong enough to hold him or fear killing their own family.
Sometimes, Gabriel catches himself thinking that he's got to be the only astronomer with selenophobia. That's right, he studied astronomy. You may ask yourself why he works compiling the weather for some TV channel, but the answer is rather simple: There are are no jobs available in that sector. In addition to that, he studied astronomy to find out more about his lycanthropy yet can't bare to look at the moon. Ironic, isn't it?
Since Gabriel came to the conclusion that he cannot study the moon, the only option is to destroy it. However foolish of an endeavour, it's the only option he has to save himself and other possible werewolves from doing any more harm.
There's no full moon without the moon, after all.
