Kate Windsdale has had a pretty standard life for a middle-class child. Born to a pair of good parents and an older sibling, she has a pretty good life. She's always be a quick-witted young girl, attentive and informed. She loved the order of homework in school. Simple questions, simple answers. Just requires a bit of attention to detail, something she's always been good at.
Now in her first year of university, she has an internship with a company downtown which is... weird. The pay is amazing (for an internship), the workload is light. She had to sign a big NDA (She went though it, it actually says the penalty for breaking it is death. Haha. That's not legal, right?) and other employment forms, but... well, the market is brutal and such. It's a big office, but it never feels like anything is actually done. Something felt off, and so the young woman did just a little bit of digging. In the center of the building is a mailroom, ... and as far as she can tell, more mail enters and exits the mailroom than should. One of the rules is not to interfere with the mail routing, to do her job and maintain it. She's good at it, the paperwork, the minutiae.
And so, when she snagged one of the inter-office correspondence envelopes out of the queue - planning to peak inside and then put it right back -wasn't she surprised to find a memo addressed to... herself. Oh dear.
