Sanguine Bladestorm was an up and coming Telekinetic Combat Specialist in the Royal Equestrian Defence Force and was in good standing; other than failing the fitness test several times and that she was secretly ineligible for service due to not having found her Special Talent yet (she had dyed a fake Cutie Mark on her flank).
Then on a routine border patrol her platoon came under attack by a band of gryphon bandits. In the ensuing battle Sanguine comported herself valiantly facing the enemy without fear and fought them off almost singlehoofedly.. Well, there was the the fact that she was far more ruthless and lethal than normal for a green soldier. And counting the number of kills in battle was in poor taste. Nor was laughing as she tore her enemy to shreds considered a "normal" or "sane" thing for a pony to do.
Then, once the battle was over, Sanguine crawled into the disembowelled chest cavity of one of the dead bandit catbirds.
This was - for some reason - considered "extremely unbecoming of a member of Their Majesties' Armed Forces", "completely psychotic" and "what the actual buck is wrong with you, filly?"
Sanguine was then - unsurprisingly - subjected to a psych eval that she subsequently "failed catastrophically", resulting in the hospitalization of three psychologists for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and a complete audit of the the entire armed forces for blank flanks and/or psychologically unstable mares.
She was then banished to the planet "Dirt" by Princess Celestia so that she could "learn about the Magic of Friendship" somewhere "as far away as reasonably possible" from "her little ponies".
