River Lodestar is a wiccan priestess who will risk her life to become the ultimate witch and return humanity to Goddess worship.

She is 24 years old, lives in the third floor of a converted house in Berkley, CA, and often appears as throwback hippy-chic in peasant blouses, broomstick skirts, and crystal jewelry.

Movement

Movement is taken immediately before OR after your Action. It cannot be split.

- Dashing penalizes your Action -1 die per 5 feet.
All-out Sprint: instead of using free Movement or Dash, you may spend your Action and roll Brawn + Athletics ( dice) Difficulty 6. You move (0 + (Outcome x 5) Feet).

Actions

Attack with your weapon or hands.
Evade by rolling to Defend or Dodge. Your Outcome is "spent" to reduce the Outcome of any incoming attacks until your next Action.
Activate a Power or use an Ability as normal.
Hold your Action by declaring an Action and a triggering event. If the event occurs before your turn on the next Round, you perform the Action.

If you have not yet spent your Action this Round, you may use it as a Reaction.

Reactions

Dodge by rolling Dexterity + Athletics ( dice) Difficulty 6. Your Outcome is subtracted from the attacker's.
Defend with your weapon by rolling its attack roll. Your Outcome is subtracted from the attacker's. Availability depends on weapon match-up (tap/hover).
Clash with the attacker using the same roll you would use to Defend. The higher Outcome (not contested) is treated as the result of a successful, undefended attack roll against the loser.

Desperate Defense

If you have already used your Action, you may Exert your Mind to perform a Reaction. Your next Round's Action receives a -2 dice penalty. You cannot Clash as a Desperate Defense or React more than once to a given Action.

Will to Survive

Once per Contract, you may reduce the severity of an incoming Injury up to 5 Severity levels (to a minimum of Severity 5). You also take a point of Mind Damage and suffer a Battle Scar as normal.

If an attack's Outcome is positive after defense, it results in a new Injury with Severity = Outcome + Weapon damage - Armor

Proper Stabilization

Requires an advanced first aid kit for Severity 4 Injuries, a surgery setup for Severity 5 Injuries, and a surgery theater for Severity 6+ Injuries.

Roll Intellect + Medicine, Difficulty equal to Severity

An Outcome of 1 or greater will Stabilize the Injury and stop its degradation.
Outcome 4+ puts the Injury on track to heal clean: its Battle Scar heals with it.
On a Botch, the Injury's Severity increases by 1.
Failed or Botched attempts may be re-attempted at +1 Difficulty per failure.

Makeshift Stabilization

Attempt a major treatment using insufficient or improvised medical equipment.

Roll Intellect + Medicine, Difficulty > Severity

Outcome 1+ will Stabilize the Injury and stop its degradation.
However, any Outcome less than 4 increases the Injury’s Severity by 1. Botches also worsen its Battle Scar if it caused one.
Regardless of Outcome, any Battle Scars caused by the Injury will persist after it is fully healed.
Failed or Botched attempts may be retried at +1 Difficulty per failure.

Self-stabilization attempts are rolled at +1 Difficulty.

Biography

River was raised Catholic in a small town in Ohio. She had even considered the nunnery at some points, but decided she liked boys too much for that nunsense. In college, she did what college kids do, exploring her preferences and figuring out who she was. Right up until she was assaulted by her boss.

After that, she couldn't face him and was too embarrassed about what happened to tell anyone. She spiraled in a depression for months, her friends going from concerned to worried to trying to get her help. But they didn't really know what had happened and didn't know what to say. She stopped paying her bills, stopped getting out of a bed. They tried to stage an intervention, but she got offended instead of hearing their concern.

In her attempts to reclaim herself, she discovered Wicca. Specifically the Sisters of Artemis (or just the Sisters) and moved to California to learn from the Teacher. What she didn't know, being inexperienced and a bit naïve, was that the Sisters were a cult. Once in, she cut all ties with her former life and became Sister Ash.

She has since left the sisterhood and changed her name again to River.

Her specific pagan philosophy is a combination of Dianic Wicca with a Celtic twist. She worships Artio, the Mother Bear, and practices an animist tradition. Though she is still veiled, she Believes.
