Actions

Attack with your weapon or hands.
Evade by rolling to Defend or Dodge. Your Outcome is "spent" to reduce the Outcome of any incoming attacks until your next Action.
Activate a Power or use an Ability as normal.
Hold your Action by declaring an Action and a triggering event. If the event occurs before your turn on the next Round, you perform the Action.

If you have not yet spent your Action this Round, you may use it as a Reaction.

Reactions

Dodge by rolling Dexterity + Athletics ( dice) Difficulty 6. Your Outcome is subtracted from the attacker's.
Defend with your weapon by rolling its attack roll. Your Outcome is subtracted from the attacker's. Availability depends on weapon match-up (tap/hover).
Clash with the attacker using the same roll you would use to Defend. The higher Outcome (not contested) is treated as the result of a successful, undefended attack roll against the loser.

Desperate Defense

If you have already used your Action, you may Exert your Mind to perform a Reaction. Your next Round's Action receives a -2 dice penalty. You cannot Clash as a Desperate Defense or React more than once to a given Action.

Will to Survive

Once per Contract, you may reduce the severity of an incoming Injury up to 5 Severity levels (to a minimum of Severity 5). You also take a point of Mind Damage and suffer a Battle Scar as normal.

If an attack's Outcome is positive after defense, it results in a new Injury with Severity = Outcome + Weapon damage - Armor

Roll Intellect + Medicine, Difficulty equal to Severity

An Outcome of 1 or greater will Stabilize the Injury and stop its degradation.
Outcome 4+ puts the Injury on track to heal clean: its Battle Scar heals with it.
On a Botch, the Injury's Severity increases by 1.
Failed or Botched attempts may be re-attempted at +1 Difficulty per failure.

Makeshift Stabilization

Attempt a major treatment using insufficient or improvised medical equipment.

Roll Intellect + Medicine, Difficulty > Severity

Outcome 1+ will Stabilize the Injury and stop its degradation.
However, any Outcome less than 4 increases the Injury’s Severity by 1. Botches also worsen its Battle Scar if it caused one.
Regardless of Outcome, any Battle Scars caused by the Injury will persist after it is fully healed.
Failed or Botched attempts may be retried at +1 Difficulty per failure.

Self-stabilization attempts are rolled at +1 Difficulty.

Biography

The Gates opened...I was sixteen, living in a quiet church orphanage near St. Louis. One day, the world was normal. The next, demons poured through rifts in the sky, and everything fell apart. Chaos. Fire. Screams. Soldiers came through the smoke and blood to pull us from the wreckage.

One of them was Sergeant Marcus Hale, a field medic. He saved my life then gave me a new one. He took me in, taught me how to treat wounds, how to stay calm when the world shakes, and how to hold onto faith when everything seems lost.

When I turned eighteen, I became a priest and signed on with Helix Defense Solutions as a combat medic. People thought I was running toward danger. They were right. I believe peace doesn’t come from hiding it comes from standing where evil is strongest and refusing to back down.

I still feel fear every time I enter a battlefield. But I think of Marcus, who died protecting others, and I pray. That’s when I feel it: calm. Courage. A quiet voice inside that doesn’t come from me.

Lately, I dream of a being made of light and countless eyes. Its words are lost to me, but its message burns in my heart: a warning and a promise. It showed me someone who will bring peace to this shattered world.

And I will find them.
