Charlatans

Nowadays you can't go a day without some phony prophet trying to peddle their wares to you.
Driven by the increased interest in the supernatural, charlatans from palm readers to televangelists are everywhere. And while the vast majority of witches, psychics, magicians, hypnotists, cures, potions, faith healers, and clairvoyants are complete fakes, they do make a living.
As the saying goes, "it's easier for an actor to make it in alternative medicine than Hollywood."
Most people scoff at these clearly-phony supernatural services, yet those same people often buy into at least one scam.
The most dangerous charlatans are the self-styled monster hunters who carry a mall-ninja arsenal and guns with silver bullets. Most have never encountered anything supernatural and do absolutely nothing besides burn some sage and patrol the area for a night or two. Even so, those who are superstitious, fearful, or desperate enough will hire them to solve the problems they simply don't understand. In some cases with disastrous results.
For Contractors, charlatans are red herrings and obstacles. Clumsy fakes that conjure a smokescreen of misinformation and escalate the situations they're in.

You learn the following information about the area:
- You can tell how many living things have died in this area, what they were, and roughly when the deaths occurred.
- You can locate the source of any Alien energy or the presence of any Alien effects on the area. Specific information about the function of these effects beyond their general type is not forthcoming.
You may only use this Effect once per day.
You cannot investigate the same area more than once per day.
- You can target yourself if you qualify as a valid target by the other requirements.
- Your target must be within line of sight, or within range of another sense if more fitting for the Gift's flavor.
The Eyes of Dead Gods

You learn a single specific piece of information, chosen from the following list, about the area:
- You learn the detailed map of the area.
- You learn how heavily trafficked the area is, what sorts of Animate beings have moved through the area and when.
This Effect is obviously Alien and eye-catching across its range to those witnessing it, and you are obviously the source.
This Gift cannot have more than 3 Drawbacks, and its Gift Cost is capped at 2.
You cannot investigate the same area more than once per day.

Ever since the invention of powerline Ethernet adapters, Dominic has known about the wired transmission of energy being a vector for information. Now with the latest upgrade to Project Ozymandias he can now use that information in the form that it was truly intended to be use. As the great genius Nikola Tesla once posited, it is indeed possible to transmit electrical energy over the open air, and now with a few taps on his computer Dominic can broadcast a signal that much like an IMSI catcher identifies the presence of electrical impulses in the air, even ones as simple as brain activity or nerve impulses are captured as well down to even the barely perceptible impulses that travel through plants allowing him to track the illuminati's agents wherever they go.

The Dungeon map

- You learn where exactly creatures and people live within the area, and what sorts of creatures they are.
- You can locate the source of any Alien energy or the presence of any Alien effects on the area. Specific information about the function of these effects beyond their general type is not forthcoming.
Anyone who touches this Artifact will notice it warping their body and may drop it. If they choose to hold or use it, they immediately receive the following Battle Scar: Weak stomach. If they lose possession of this Artifact, the Battle Scar heals over the course of the next day.

Set the Scene
