Film noir as a genre relies on grittiness, a hardboiled attitude and a willingness to overcome whatever adversity you're faced with. In response to a few failings from it's host, Frank's "benefactor" has begun to eat away at his mind, lessening the weight of various physical/mental burdens upon him.

As a Candyman, one must be like all candies. And in the world of candy, no sweet is tougher than a Jawbreaker. It lasts for hours. Bismarck has learned to carry the mindset of one, and now resists his pain just the same as a Jawbreaker lasts in the mouth for hours. His gob-- or rather, his self-- cannot be stopped (Ha!). An autopsy or similar investigation reveals that his pastry brain has chunks of jawbreaker strewn about in it; a sort of cake-candy mixture. His skin, too, has tiny pieces of red, blue, and yellow color that are typically seen in jawbreakers.

When the band made by the above ritual is worn, it occasionally (every 4 hours or so) briefly flashes a translucent outline of its wielder’s body at peak condition (this is their “elemental”, the shell or outline of their soul), and the wielder is able to focus as if they themselves were at peak condition.

Utilizing his military contacts, he enlisted in a top-secret experiment named Project Titan. This has allowed him to gain superhuman abilities. The latest addition is a small module inserted in his body that allows him to ignore pain and trauma to his body. When Jason activates this power, it is apparent as you can see the fluid coursing through his veins.

After years of self harm, Bob barely even notices the pain enough to be effected by it. Instead he takes pleasure in the fact that people can finally release their aggressions, especially at his expense.

The mobster's been through tougher scrapes than this. A few cuts and bruises won't stop them.
