Whether 2d or 3d, the image of a raven is always smaller than the actual raven. This ritual draws from the creator's subconscious, in what the familiar looks like, acts like, and in energy to bring it into physical being. While it acts independently, it behaves as the creator expects, except in cases where the creator is in disagreement deep down with what they consciously want the familiar to do.
While fabricated from their mind and energy, no direct mental or magical link remains once called forth, and thus no backlash (as in some fiction) occurs if the familiar is destroyed. Additionally, when called again, it is in essence the same creature as before.
While currently tiring and difficult to do, this should, of course, become easier with practice.
