OWL - The Occult Wildlife Landing
The Occult Wildlife Landing (OWL) is a nonprofit organization that advocates for the rights of supernatural creatures to live a life unmolested by humanity’s relentless spread and greed.
While OWL has become the de-facto head of the conservationist movement in the United States, many claim it’s not as innocent as it appears. A number of small, seemingly-disconnected terrorist cells wear the OWL insignia with pride. These groups– which tend to contain a disproportionate number of supernatural creatures and beings– commit high-profile acts of public violence with the intent of furthering OWL’s core objectives. In the past, they’ve blown up oil pipelines, stopped development projects, and even infected congregations of people with mutagenic viruses.
OWL denies any involvement with these so-called “OWL-inspired terrorist organizations” (or OITOs for short). However, many people conflate the two and consider OWL itself to be a terrorist organization.
One thing is for certain: when OWL sends a blast to its followers urging protest, they’re taken seriously.

Desensitization
It doesn't have to hurt if you don't want it to.
The most painful times in Hezalea's life has left her indifferent to the pain. If she tries hard enough, she can tune it out as if it's background noise.
On pain:
One might say suffering is part of being human. Does that mean those who have yet to suffer are yet to be fully human? If that were true, if pain and sadness were a prerequisite for recognition, Hezalea would rather shirk it all.
On willfulness:
Muting any of the senses takes more than being told, "Just deal with it." But now... Hezalea can indeed say that to herself and expect herself to stop being so flustered by the incessant agony that hovers around her. It's all just a placebo. She's incredibly annoyed that this very power has validated all the insensitive words thrown her way.
On heroism:
Was numbness always part of being a hero? She doubts it. Often the most questionable heroes are ones who have become desensitized from the horrors that plague their lives. She wishes she could feel visceral disgust at all the atrocities in the world again, she wishes she could say that was the drive for her ambitions, but really, why does she continue moving forward?

Comfortably Numb

Isaac will do his best to avoid stress, but now when he does face the pain no longer eats at his weak mortal flesh, the flesh has gone numb.
After his last job, he snagged some pages and got some glimpses of notes and documents to add to his research. With this knowledge, he crafted a serum of sorts, made from the ash, that he injected into himself with a needle he stole from work. Whatever it was made his body feel, nothing, or well almost nothing, it was a familiar feeling.
While having this power, some of his veins and arteries appear much darker than normal.
