When he describes these stories in detail, and he readily can because he remembers them all very clearly, it's exceedingly disturbing to others to the point it's traumatizing. Upon entering the target's system, they assault the mind, manipulating neurochemical receptors to induce extreme stress and guilt for any harmful actions. If they affect the target strongly enough, a permanent, pervasive aversion to harming others may result.
The doctor has now, against Eliza's advisement, altered this protocol to draw from his own traumatic experiences and intensify the assault. She will attempt to filter, in realtime, any backlash from this, but removing the firewall between the target's experiences and his own has created a chance to plunge the doctor into the same scarring effects his target is feeling.

In times where Laurence is being attacked by what he doesn't believe, Laurence's subconscious starts to attempt to defend him without clueing him in to what he is doing as not to cause strain on reality. this causes a sharp pain in Laurence's head in the moment (and then a sharper pain in the other's head if it works).

I lock eyes with the one I have chosen to punish and if they fail the roll they will go into a trance for a second and go back to normal like nothing happened. The name of my target will appear on whatever piece of paper I am holding in an unknown language
If you fail the resist roll you will fall into a dream where you are constantly in stressfull or dangerous situations while a voice keeps telling you to hurt yourself. That if you do It will make all the problems go away. In reality no time has passed and the effected person doesn't even know they had that dream. But the dreams message is buried deep within the victim's subconsious.
