Drawing in the air with her fingers, Luciole traces along the target's form. Then, she adds her own... creative adjustments to them. She imagines how she'd erase an eye or a limb, how she'd redraw their features to make them just that bit more uncanny. Her hands move accordingly, and she thinks she's making a masterpiece. The world is her canvas, and you are her latest painting.
On painting:
It's therapeutic! It's calming! Art can be so many things at once yet nothing at all. It's what you make of it. It's what I say it is. You are what I say you are. You're such a perfect little piece of art... but my prof would always say, "Kill your darlings. 'Ruin' your art and learn to let go." She's letting go of you. Are you happy now?
On technique:
Luciole can never forget the contours. She can never forget the contours of everyone she's ever loved, and that's... E V E R Y O N E . It's only natural that it's the first thing she traces of you, and it's the first thing she'll try to sabotage. She has an image of you in her mind that she traces and cuts at, chipping you away like her painstaking sculpture. Hey, at least you're not getting an unstabilized injury with this. If you're suddenly missing a limb, it just means you have a stump where your hand was supposed to be. Luciole isn't going to waste time drawing all the gorey details.
On abstract art:
She likes unsettling things - was it not clear before? It's not that she dreams of repainting real humans on the daily, but the thought has crossed her mind before. Now she's free to reinterpret bodies as she pleases - no more nonsense about anatomy and drawing style, this is just real life with a cherry on top.
On the horrible things she could do:
Are you curious enough to peek this far? Well, here's a little secret. Luciole isn't perfect at drawing. No one can be, especially not in three seconds.
Chances are,
- You've been disfigured because she tried to redraw your face and failed miserably. Why is your eye where your mouth is supposed to be?
- You're getting chronic ankle instability because she redrew your legs too thin to support the rest of you.
- You're getting missing fingers because she can't draw fingers.
- You're getting tongueless because she erased it and forgot to put it back.
- You're getting wheezing because she's drawn your neck too thin and there's no space for your airways.
- You're missing a limb because she erased it thinking you wouldn't need it.
- You've got a traumatic brain injury because she sneezed and accidentally drew a dent in your head.
- You've got narcolepsy because she drew Z's everywhere.
- You've been skinned because she erased your outer layer. She's a media artist, she draws with multiple layers.
On range:
Luciole has to be able to see you, including the part of you that she is trying to redraw. If you have your head turned away from her, she can't scribble on your face. Hey, why don't you come closer? :)
Spend an Action. Select a Living target within 45 feet. Roll Dexterity + Occult (9 dice) at Difficulty 6. The target may roll Body, -2 dice at Difficulty 7, as a Free Action to resist.
If you succeed, the target receives a new Battle Scar of your choosing, limited by the contested Outcome:
This Gift cannot have more than 3 Drawbacks, and its Gift Cost is capped at 2.
Your alteration "heals" over the course of the next month, after which it is fully cured.
Exert your Mind and spend 1 Action. Select a non-Alien Device within arm's reach. Roll a single D10 as a critical failure check. If you roll a 1, the Effect fails, and you gm's choice. Can be used on Armor.
Lasts the next two hours. Your target receives 2 extra dice to all actions taken for its intended use. Attacking with an upgraded weapon grants +2 Weapon Damage instead of additional dice. If it is a piece of Armor, it instead receives half that amount as bonus armor rating, rounded up. If an upgraded shield and armor are both worn, the upgrade bonus does not stack with itself.
Upgraded weapons count as any material your opponent might be particularly vulnerable to. Upgraded Armor cannot be circumvented by called shots. Upgraded Devices do not run out of fuel or energy.
Whenever the Artifact's owner focuses their attention onto someone whom they wish to impede, the intensity of their eye's beam of lantern-light momentarily increases as it burns open a multitude of watery holes across the illuminated portions of the target. Though this process is nearly painless, it is uncomfortable and rather gruesome to watch. A moment later, an infinitely long, glowing, wispy centipede phantasm appears as it leaves from one of the aforementioned holes and begins entering and exiting every other hole, one by one, restricting the target's movements all the while. If the target is successfully petrified in the process, a thin film of glow-water spreads all over the target's body as well, originating from each of the holes which glisten from within.
Once the bindings are made to disperse - be it through the intent of the Artifact's owner or due to the target breaking free of their own accord - the centipede phantasm dissolves into thin air, and all of the watery holes close up and disappear.
Expend a point of Battery and spend an Action. Select a target within 45 feet. This Effect cannot be used unless you are an abyssal centipede, the target is within your eye's beam of lantern-light and you keep the target at the center of your cone of vision throughout the entirety of the Effect. If line of sight is broken, the Effect ends prematurely. Roll Perception + Alertness (3 dice) at Difficulty 6. the target may resist by rolling Mind at Difficulty 7.
If you succeed, your target will be restricted at their location by an intangible, ethereal binding. They cannot move to a new location, and, if your Contested Outcome was greater than their Mind divided by 2, they are encased and cannot take any physical Actions until they break free.
Restricted targets may attempt to break the binding and escape by spending an Action and rolling Mind at Difficulty 7. Breaking free requires a total cumulative Outcome equal or greater than the original Contested Outcome.
You may use this Effect as a Reaction to contest any physical Action a target is taking. Excess Outcome does not restrict the target. This interrupts Concentration.
Your bindings affect intangible beings like ghosts.
You may end this Effect prematurely as a Free Action.
Anyone who witnesses you during this Effect's activation will almost certainly be disturbed to see your eye's beam of lantern-light burn open watery holes across the illuminated portions of the target, through which an infinitely long, glowing, wispy centipede phantasm can be seen entering and exiting as it restricts the target's movements.
While Luci communicates with her target (and in her own case, while she's projecting her thoughts and feelings onto the page), she draws a picture depicting the target's trauma and the circumstances behind its manifestation. Afterward, she rips the page out, crumbles it up into a little ball, and gives it to the target to eat.
It slips down into the user's stomach, melts into a bubbling mucus, and forces itself into their nervous system. The rogue energies force themselves directly up and into the target's brain, where they seek out the trauma they have been sicced on and forcefully pull it from the roots of grey matter. Not a pleasing experience in the slightest.
But to cap it off, the mucus coagulates in the target's stomach and begins to bubble violently until, inevitably, the target vomits the mucus back up. The inky black liquid- not too immediately dissimilar to the likeness of a roundworm, as it splatters onto the surface, takes the face of the one who produced it, and attempts to scamper into the nearest drain or sewer.
When constantly meddling with what goes on outside of the base reality, there is always a likelihood that someone or something unfriendly may notice her. The Well is home to a variety of creatures, after all.
Amalgamations are typically just leftover spurts of energy that coagulated together and created something malformed. Most of the time, they are not that dangerous even if they are a little feral.
Revenants, wraiths- whatever you want to call them, they tend to manifest as undead spectres or wraiths- entities that are formless and only when looked at may take form due to the mind's inherent need to seek sanity. They may crawl itself up just in time and worm their way into Luci's mind if she isn't careful with some of her powers, and they will attempt to live out certain vices vicariously through her, in an attempt to experience basic needs that they are starved of in the Well.
Eidolons are typically not a concern for the complete opposite reason that Amalgamations aren't. They can be describe more accurately as a system than actual entities that were here long before the universe existed and will be there long after. Simply put, whatever Luci might be up to will hardly ever register for them- like to what esteem an elephant might hold an ant.
To most people, The Well is a type of Hell, and that doesn't necessarily change for Luci, except for with the creation of this power, allowing her to purge rogue entities from her mind and more safely maneuver the vast Oblivion. It has the unintended effect of also working against normal traumas.
Exert your Mind to activate. Select a Living target within arm's reach. Over the course of one minute, your patient must communicate with you and reveal at least one of their Traumas to you, including the details of those Traumas and the circumstances of how they were acquired. After the full treatment time has elapsed, roll Charisma + Crafts (6 dice) at Difficulty 6.
Your target may Resist. If your treatment is successful, you may remove one of the patient's revealed Traumas without incurring any Experience cost.
Once per day per target, you may choose to use this Effect to stabilize the Mind of a target within arm's reach. Treatment takes 30 seconds but will not remove any Traumas. If you are successful, restore 2 Mind damage.
Anyone who witnesses you during this Effect's activation will almost certainly be disturbed to see vomit a roundworm with their face on it as it tries to crawl into the nearest drain or orifice.
Dr. Laz secretes a clear slightly viscous liquid from his hand(s) which covers the wound site and seals it from further contamination. The patient notices tingling spread from the wound site up to their spine, and shoot up to their head, drawing information and bioneural energy from the recipient as the wounds visibly close over the course of a minute
The fluid of course contains a portion of the Doc's own nanites, bearing instructions for closing the wound taken from his own subconscious mind. The mind fog the target gets is a "bleed" effect of tapping into the nervous system to get "local" input on the wound to better aid healing.
Exert your Mind and spend 1 minute. Select a Living target within arm's reach. Your target must also Exert their Mind to activate this Effect. Choose a specific Injury on your target that has not yet been treated with this Effect and roll Intellect + Medicine (5 dice) at Difficulty 6.
If you succeed, the Injury is reduced in Severity by your Outcome. If you reduce its Severity to 0, the Injury is fully healed. Otherwise, it is partially healed and will heal the rest of the way at its natural rate.
This counts as a successful Makeshift Stabilization if the Injury was not already Stabilized; any Battle Scars caused by the Injury will remain.
I connect minds with my trusty rat Eduardo and command him to do my bidding. Our eyes glow the same color depending on actions.
Eduardo is my homie
Exert your Mind and spend an Action. Select a Non-Alien Creature within 20 feet.
For the next day, you may issue specific commands to your target which they will be compelled to follow.
Your commands must be relatively simple and within the target’s intellectual grasp. You cannot make them obviously endanger themselves or violate their instinct for self-preservation. The effects of the command will fade after a day has passed.
The aquamancer channels a nearby source of water into a flexible whip, which can be used to attack or to defend.
Spend an Action. Select a target within arm's reach. You must actively and obviously use at least a gallon of water to activate this Effect. Roll Dexterity + Athletics (8 dice) Difficulty 6. The target may contest by rolling to Dodge or Defend as a Reaction, Difficulty 6.
If the Contested Outcome is positive, the target takes that much Damage plus 4.
You may use this Effect to Defend against any melee, projectile, or firearm Attacks within range or Clash against any Attack targeted at you. Using it to Defend deals no Damage but does not cost Exertion.
This Gift cannot have more than 3 Drawbacks, and its Gift Cost is capped at 2.
The survivalist is adept at following an animal through any terrain. Once they find a recent track, they may focus their will to illuminate the trail of their target. Any part of the target's trail within eyeshot glows a bright, misty green. Even the trails made by vehicles the target was riding in are illuminated.
Exert your Mind and spend a minute. Select a Sapient target within 20 feet. You may select a target at any range if you use up fresh tracks of the target. At the end of your investigation, roll Perception + Survival (2 dice) at Difficulty 6.
You learn all the following information about your target:
The quality and specificity of information gained depends on your Outcome.
Any information you gather is revealed by illuminating the trail in a glowing light and made publicly available.
You cannot investigate the same target more than once per day.
The Psychic can speak directly into someone's mind, engaging in an entirely telepathic conversation. While they do, they take on a blank, vacant stare in the direction of their target, and appear to be muttering gibberish to themselves under their breath.
Exert your Mind and spend an Action. Select a target any distance away from you. You must have a specific target in mind, but you require only an intuitive understanding of them, such as their name, face, or Location. This Effect cannot be used unless you can see your target.
You open up a line of communication to your target, and may converse with them as long as one of you maintains Concentration
The conversation will only be perceived by the intended recipient. You must share a common language for your target to understand the message.
The hacker is capable of crafting bottles of nanites. When poured on a broken object, the nanites go to work restoring it to a functioning state. The goop shimmers and crawls, sparking with blue electricity as it reforms broken parts.
Spend 10 Rounds and use up this a bottle of metallic fluid. Select a Object within arm's reach that is no larger than an SUV. Cannot be used on Alien technology. More than half the target object must be present in order to begin repairs. Roll 7 dice Difficulty 6, dice penalties do not apply.
If you succeed, your target is repaired back to a functional state. If you fail, you spend the full time working before realizing you cannot repair the target.
The Future Soldier learned to create foam grenades in their own time period, and they still can, kinda. They look like glowing orange capsules with a rugged rubberized grip. When thrown, they burst into a splash of expanding neon orange foam. The foam hardens in seconds, severely hampering the movement of anyone unlucky enough to have been splashed. Those affected may use their hands or weapons to hack away at the foam and free themselves.
Occasionally, the fuses on these bootleg grenades fails, and they go off immediately.
Spend an Action and use up this small metallic grenade with pin (unless you succeed on 1d10, Difficulty 7). Make a thrown Attack at a Location within normal Attack range. Roll a single D10 as a critical failure check. If you roll a 1, the Effect fails, and you are hit as it activates immediately at your present location. The target may roll to dodge or Defend, as normal for thrown Attacks. The Attack itself does not deal any Damage beyond the Effect.
If you succeed, all affected targets will be restricted at their location by a physical, tangible binding. They can still move their arms and use Effects, but are reduced to ¼ of their movement speed.
The binding around a target must be destroyed in order for them to break free. Breaking the binding requires a total amount of Damage equal to twice the original Contested Outcome. Damage from multiple attacks is cumulative and stacks linearly.
