I got a letter in the mail. Or more so an envelope with an item inside. The return address was somewhere in Vegas, and the letter inside the envelope was as gaudy as you'd expect from Vegas. It was an advertisement for "Mr. Mysteries Magical Emporium (and more!)", talking about all the items they sell, mostly magicians' tricks. In the envelope, there was also a little chain necklace with a pendant of a sheathed sword, probably one of those novelty letter openers. On the back of the advertisement though, was a more personal note. "Every brave knight needs a wizard!!! Try out this magic sword on for size, see how it feels! - The Mystical Merlin" I thought the letter was crazy. But the last 12 hours were just as crazy, so this was certainly a part of it. I took out the necklace, and just instinctively understood what I could do with it. Surely this will assist in other contracts. And maybe this "Merlin" will be helping me out later as well.
After the last contract, I got back home and started working on my sword skills again. Clearly, those were going to be integral to staying alive during these things. There's a boxing gym near my place, and they know me well enough to not ask a lot of questions as to why I'm training with a sword in there. After a solid training session, I got back to my apartment and found a package outside my door waiting for me. Same return address as last time, with some promotional stickers on the box for Mr. Mysteries. I took the package inside, and when I opened it, a puff of weird powder came and assaulted every sense on my face. I was blinded, my ears were ringing, the powder was going down my throat, it was an awful experience. However, after a few seconds, the powder seemed to stop irritating my skin and throat. Surely this was some type of magic like I got from Merlin like last time. And just as I thought, looking in the bottom of the box was another small letter. "How can you possibly slay any monster with such mundane swordsmanship?? Try this on for size, see how it feels! - The Mystical Merlin". And what do you know? The next morning, when I went to train at the gym, I felt... stronger, more capable of whatever comes my way. I felt like I could cut a bullet out of the air if I wanted to. Not that I'll be itching to test that anytime soon.
