Downtime

A couple days off

Matt having a couple days off was new. Around 95 dollars to his name and in need of a new sword decided it was time to visit the mall. He may have just gotten home but he didn't really care to sit down yet. So he grabbed his keys and got in his 1995 grand marquis not super old but old enough to matter it still ran decently well even if it guzzled gas. Driving to the nearest mall felt almost surreal after his first mission...almost too normal, like none of this really mattered. Granted in the grand scheme of things it didn't, if this was an anime this was either a filler episode or a lead into the next arch where he meets an antagonist briefly or something happens there that he must save people...doubtful anything that interesting will happen.

When he got there he found a half decent parking spot, kinda mid way and just walked inside. Walking through the mall past shops selling sneakers. clothing, music, and basically any other random bullshit you could want. He basically ignores all the mundane people, afterall his isn't one of them anymore. He is special, he has a gift. One that he has yet to even use but he can practice that later, for now he needs a new cheap sword. This is gonna hurt his wallet if he doesnt get a better job soon.

Its a bit more distance past the food court, past hot topic where the wanna be goth, emo, metalhead, punks, and scene kids lurk to get their favorite shade of black clothing sometimes with band designs or anime characters. That one store in every mall exists just past all that, the one that sells the impractical ninja weapons that even he makes fun of. The one that also sells cheap mass produced katanas. He wishes he had the funds to get a proper one, one that will last more than one mission but that will come in time.

For now he walks in and choses a simple weapon, a katana with a dark blue sheath with flowers carved into the sheath in a kind of edo era japan style to try and fool people into likening it to the old katanas meant for warfare and prey on people who don't know much. These things are basically just decorations at this point but its the best he can get, he refuses to go on a mission without a katana. Part of being a super, gifted, or otherwise enhanced has to be looking cool. He drops 66 dollars on the counted, damned sales tax. As he is leaving he notices someone who used to make fun of him in highschool working in a sporting goods store. He thinks to himself "what a loser...I am on to better things with my life, more important things". He makes sure to get out of there before anyone recognises him and leads to a mundane conversation, nowhere near stong enough to admit to being a contractor in public he dreads saying the reality that he works in a dollar general. Hopefully that wont be his truth for too much longer.
