A week or so after the events back at the mountain where I first met The Paragon, I decided to make use of the potential opportunity in front of me. It would be a risk under normal circumstances, but what with this Contracting business being able to hand out potential personified, it doesn't seem that farfetched that an actual superhero would be able to assist me in my many endeavors.
So anyway, I cycled about an hour away from my house before I texted the number The Paragon gave me on my burner phone. There's no way I'm using my personal cell to talk to some famous public figure who also participates in some weird wish-granting game, let-alone one that seems so...stubborn? The only reason I'm actually contacting them in the first place is because I feel that they can be trusted, and I find myself to be a pretty good judge of whether someone is putting on a mask or not. I should know.
After messaging them, I let them know it was me without giving away any real information. They begin to make small talk and I transition into asking them some questions related to their hero lifestyle. Mainly about secret hideouts and what they do to villains once they beat them. Just genuine curiosity leading me as well as a distinct fear that once my plans are set in motion, I'll at minimum need a place to stay. I can't rely on this identity anymore once I'm on some bigshot organization's radar. It's going to be annoying to have to leave mom and dad, but maybe I can bring Toby with me.
I also asked if there would be any way for him to assist me in my hunt for Constance. Nothing again.
In the end, the whole ordeal was a waste of time. I ended up crushing the phone and burying it underneath some wild berries before heading back home.
It was getting late. Mom would kill me if I missed dinner.
