Shadows of St. Blythe

I saw death with my eye

A skeleton with a sick drip came to me for a mission about helping a kid.

I thought it was going to be easy.

How hard could it be?

It was, in fact, very hard.

I lost an eye.

It happened in an instant.

I don't think I will ever be able to get this picture out of my head.

At the entrance of the room, where nothing was a second ago, this giant blob of black slime rushed at me like I was a roach.

I can still hear the cries of the children who assaulted me once he made contact with my face.

I can barely sleep. My nights are assaulted by recurring nightmares. Even the dark is scaring me now.

I need to change.

The ways I think, the ways I behave...

They are not needed anymore.

It's a matter of life and death.

While thinking this last line, my heart is racing as fast as a horse.

Where decades of catatony once were, there is now the excitement of finding something new and dangerous.

My spark is now lit.

And I intend to make it a bonfire.

The bonehead kept parole.

I completed his little quest.

And now I'm a power bearer.

I can heal people.

That's the first thing I did.

I healed myself.

The eye is gone and the traumas are still here.

But the rest of my face is now normal.

I intend to use this ability to take the golden ticket and get out of the streets.

Downtime

First day of the new me

First things first, I used my power and healed myself.

I really needed that.

Then I sold my 19th-century costume and got a few euros out of it.

I bought a bit of food and a pirate eye patch to cover the hole in my head.

I like the look it's giving me.

Then I tried something else.

If I could heal myself, I could also heal others.

It was a god given way to make money.

So I started small.

I helped a few homeless people making them swear not to talk about.

And sure enough, they started to talk about it.

Nothing too much, but people started to whisper.

There was a miracle healer downtown.

Of course, I took precautions.

I always wore a big sweatshirt with it's big hood above my head.

That way it would be really difficult to see my face or guess my corpulence.

And I only took the big cases to win the most money with the least work possible, reducing the time I needed to spend with others.

Downtime

A home, a base, a workplace

Working at the bakery gave me enough money to buy a house near the sea.

I was starting to feel like I needed a place of my own. Now I can feel safe while sleeping at night.

This house is going to be the central point of all my future operations.

A king-sized bed is now occupying the bedroom, while several other furniture started to ornate my home during the following days.

I also bought enough canned food to resist the apocalypse.

Which could start tomorrow for all I know, I am seeing crazy things each month now.

I also started to cram for the hunting permit.

I made sure everything was ok for me to possess legally a shotgun or rifle.

I will take the exam next month once I familiarize myself with everything there is to know about possessing a gun.

That way, I would have a way to protect myself in case of a dangerous contract.
