The agony and dilemma of newfound powers

It hasn't been that long since I returned from my first contract. One day, I woke up with an extreme headache and visited the university doctor, who gave me some medicine, but it didn't really help. So, I tried to keep myself busy with my research to focus on something other than the pain. While at it, I dropped my pen and, to my surprise, it floated and met me halfway. I was shocked, to say the least. I thought I might have a fever and it was just some visual hallucinations. I stood up and thought about picking a book from the shelf on the other side of my room, and just like magic, the book flew into my hand. It felt weird, especially with the stinging in my mind each time it happened.

What stood out to me, though, was when I looked in the mirror by chance while trying to return the book to its place with this 'psychic' power. My eyes were fully black, like my eye sockets were hollow. It scared me the first time, and I lost focus, dropping the book. Thankfully, my eyes returned to normal after that, like nothing happened.

Do I consider myself lucky or unfortunate? I became the thing I was fighting. I thought my bloodline curse only applied to one person per generation, and my cousin is the chosen one for my generation, so I always assumed me and my siblings were safe, especially since it usually manifests at an early age. Or is this a side effect of the contract? Did they boost my bloodline curse or something? I don't know yet, but I do know I need to get this power under control so I won't have outbursts. I'll spend the next few weeks practicing it and testing my limits. I'm still intending on going on these risky missions, and such a power can help me survive.

Also, I need to start working out a bit. I noticed that I was more out of shape than an old man on my last mission, which can lead to my death since I have no way to defend myself. This will keep me busy from any research on the curse for the next few weeks, but I know it will pay off and get me further in the long run, if I live to make it there.
