The Web is a world filled with creatures of myth and nightmare and imagination, and those with the will and capacity to fight back.

House Rules

Contractors from The Web Are NOT portable, and may NOT visit other Playgroups to participate in Contracts.
The Web grants 6 Experience points to GMs who achieve the Golden Ratio.
  • Joint GMing: Games are run by a minimum two individuals in this setting: a setting GM, who dictates elements of the setting and has the final say on ruling, and sub-GM who controls the actions of any antagonists. Sub-GMs are encouraged to be aggressive, while setting GMs should encourage lateral thinking.
  • Hunters and Hunted: Active players can play either monsters or hunters. Monster characters work alone or in very small groups, and very rarely work with hunters in contracts. Sometimes characters blur the line, and will usually carry marks of affiliation - such as a crucifix or a pendant - to distinguish themselves from each other and enemies.
  • Born Better: True Monster characters are unique in the sense that they can be created with any number of predetermined wins. Characters created in this way can have their presence be requested by GMs as antagonists in both contracts and Moves, and depending on their actions in Moves, will be actively hunted by Hunters in Contracts. Monster character's moves often provide the setup for contracts. A player can only have one True Monster contractor at any point, and can only make another when it is killed.

Full Setting Description

The Web - where monsters are rampant, but humans fight back.

The world developed here identically to real life... until 1100. in that year, creatures began to appear: vampires, werewolves, yokai, cryptids - and with them, people who could fight those creatures. This led to a dark war between monsters and hunters that remains to this day. The leaders of the two sides of this war, the Harbingers, are monsters of legendary status, each individually aligned with their own nebulous goals, who are mostly unseen but well known.

Monsters are typically created, blessed, or enhanced by Harbingers such as Lyacon, Lilitu, or Malsumis, whereas Monster Hunters gain power from Harbingers with more of a desire for the development of humans, like Fionnbharr, the Kirin, or Heitsi-eibib. Some other Harbingers exist in a more grey area - they may give power to either man or monster if their goals are met, or simply do not make the distinction. Examples include the Devil, the Beyond, and former contractors like Doctor Victor Frankenstein.
