Ravnica

Ravnica is a worldwide cityscape; an ecumenopolis consisting of a patchwork of grand halls, decrepit slums, and ancient ruins, with layer upon layer of stonework. It is one of the most densely populated planes in the Multiverse. Law magic and the metaphysics of hierarchy are deeply woven into the very fabric of the plane, enabling cooperating leaders to achieve feats of greatness.

House Rules

Contractors from Local Uvic Test Are portable, and may play in Contracts in other Playgroups.
Local Uvic Test grants 6 Experience points to GMs who achieve the Golden Ratio.
  • Citizenship: Active Players are expected to GM Contracts from time to time. If you have played as a Contractor in your most recent six Contracts, you are barred from playing in The Illumination again until you GM.
  • Supernatural Powers: All non-mastery, non-concealed Powers must be supernatural when activated or grant a mutation that marks the wielder as supernatural or bizarre if discovered. However, magic is plentiful here, and you are unlikely to be ostracised from society. 
  • Healing: Players heal fully between moves and games.
  • Guild: Choose one of Ravnica's guilds to be a member of, or choose none. Those without a guild may rise one day, after all...
  • Starting Gift: Players begin the game with a single gift. This functions the same as a Charion Coin, and replaces it. There are no charion coins in Ravnica.
  • Multiversal Travel: Travelling the multiverse, to other planes or otherwise, is expensive and cannot be done without help from one of the guilds until you reach seasoned, at which point you may travel to and from a single plane of your choice, although it requires a minute of concentration and 2 exertions.

Full Setting Description

Hello and welcome to the City of Ravnica! The largest city not just on this planet, but in the known universe! There is magic on every street corner, but the real power sits in the guilds: The Guilds of Ravnica are ten sociopolitical factions that hold power on the city plane of Ravnica. Each guild has its distinct ideology that unifies its members with one another, with the guild itself, with its functions and purposes, and with its structure.

These guilds come together often to fight threats to the city, usually from another guild. The power balance of Ravnica is what lets this plane thrive, after all. The guilds tend to keep each other in check. In Ravnica, a contract simply refers to a job given to the players from a specific guild or character, the completion of which will result in a gift.
