In 2025, a mysterious cosmic Wave has caused reality itself to fracture. Forgotten myths, urban legends, and long-lost entities, ghosts, demons, cryptids, aliens, and mythological creatures are now appearing in the real world. The power of collective belief has made these non-existing things become tangible, reshaping the world in ways no one can fully comprehend. Governments, corporations, and secret factions now scramble to control these new forces, each with their own agenda. To manage the chaos, they employ Contractors, individuals deemed mentally unstable or eccentric enough to harvest these waves and remain conscience of the truth, whose exposure to the Wave has granted them strange, reality-altering abilities while still remembering the past. These Contractors are tasked with tracking, containing, or exploiting the newly manifested entities, all while struggling with their own unstable grip on reality. As the boundaries of what is real blur, the world teeters on the brink of a new and dangerous order, where belief itself can reshape existence.

Full Setting Description

In 2025, the world is quietly unravelling as a mysterious, cosmic phenomenon known only as the Wave has begun to tear at the fabric of reality itself. This strange occurrence, whose origins remain unknown, has given rise to an unimaginable crisis: things that once existed only in myth, legend, or the deepest corners of human imagination are now appearing in the real world. Ghosts, demons, cryptids, alien lifeforms, and creatures from ancient mythology are emerging, materializing from the collective belief and imagination of humanity. The unthinkable has become possible, the boundaries between what is real and what is imagined are fading, and the world is left scrambling to cope with the consequences.

The Wave has caused a profound shift in the nature of reality. It isn’t as if history is being rewritten or past events are being altered, rather, the impossible is manifesting in ways no one can predict. People wake up to find towns that were never there now exist; alien ships crash into rural farmlands; demons appear in city alleyways, while cryptids, long thought to be hoaxes, now roam forests and highways. It’s as if humanity’s collective beliefs, fears, and desires are bleeding into the world around them, reshaping it into something strange, dangerous, and unpredictable.

In response, a fractured world has divided itself into multiple factions, each with their own vision for how to handle this new, chaotic reality. Governments, corporations, and secret organizations have formed alliances and rivalries, all with one common goal: control. Some view the Wave as an opportunity to exploit these newly manifested entities for profit, power, or military advantage, while others seek to contain the chaos and return things to the way they were. But amid this power struggle, a singular, unsettling truth emerges: the more people believe in these entities, the stronger they become.

To manage this ever-growing crisis, various agencies have begun hiring Contractors, individuals already marginalized by society, often seen as mentally unstable or eccentric. These Contractors are those who, for reasons often tied to their own personal trauma or disillusionment, have become uniquely attuned to the disturbances caused by the Wave. Their beliefs, which might seem strange or delusional to the average person, give them the ability to interact with these newly materialized entities in ways that others cannot.

Contractors are dispatched to handle the manifestations, tracking down rogue demons, negotiating with newly appeared alien life forms, or capturing cryptids before they cause panic. They are often hired by the various factions, governments, private corporations, and even fringe cults with each agency pursuing their own goals. Some want to weaponize the new entities; others aim to neutralize them or hide them away to prevent mass hysteria. Regardless of the faction, the Contractors’ work is dangerous and taxing. Their exposure to these beings takes a heavy toll on their minds. The more they witness and interact with the anomalies, the more their perception of reality begins to fray, making it harder to distinguish between what is real and what is part of the ever-shifting new reality.

The agencies that manage the Contractors are often shrouded in secrecy, operating from the shadows to avoid public scrutiny. Some factions are motivated by profit, using the newly manifested entities as a commodity to be bought and sold. Others, like the religious and philosophical groups, believe the Wave represents a divine or spiritual awakening, and they seek to harness the power of these beings to reshape the world in their own image. Meanwhile, more scientific organizations view the Wave as an anomaly to be studied and neutralized before it can spread too far. Each agency believes they have the right solution, but none can agree on what should be done with the world that is rapidly evolving around them.

Amidst all this, the Contractors are caught in a web of intrigue, manipulation, and conflict. They are often viewed as disposable by the agencies that employ them, their unstable mental states providing convenient cover for any failure to control the new entities. To the outside world, the Contractors are seen as little more than "mad people" or "delusional outsiders," their experiences written off as symptoms of mental illness or paranoia. Yet, it is these very individuals, on the fringes of society, who hold the key to understanding and managing the new reality.

As the Wave continues to spread, the Contractors face a growing dilemma: how much of this new world can they truly control? As their missions grow more perilous and the entities they encounter become increasingly dangerous, they begin to question whether the reality they are fighting to preserve is one worth saving. With each mission, they face the haunting realization that they may not be able to stop the Wave and that perhaps the world as they knew it has already been irrevocably changed.

In the chaos, one thing is certain: the future of reality itself is at stake, and only those who can navigate the shifting boundaries between belief and existence will have a chance to shape what remains of the world.
