Dorris usually now lives in an apartment. He has lived alone for some time now, around 6 years. He doesn't know how to use many of the things in his home. For example, Dorris believes that the oven is a television that only displays one image. He doesn't even know that it can be opened. Similarly, Dorris is unaware of what a sink's actual function is. He believes it to be a toilet for very tall people.
Dorris' apartment is located in Washington D.C. On his own. He doesn't go out much, apart from touring the local clubs. He does have some friends. Or well he did. He doesn't have a phone to interact with other people nor does anyone make the effort to speak to him. Besides, what could you learn/talk about with a 12 year old?
Dorris gets his money from the performances he does, as well as the savings from his master. Despite all of this, however, Dorris doesn't end up spending his money on much. Apart from microwave meals and some new clothes, Dorris has a stockpile in the bathtub in his bathroom. Dorris is unaware that his apartment costs money in various ways, such as through bills and rent. He has received multiple letters regarding this and a friend of his, Billy Chance, has even reminded him that Dorris needs to pay his bills or he will get evicted.
It does seem though that perhaps Dorris has managed to charm the landlord as he has not been evicted after 6 years of living there.
The most defining event of Dorris' life was when his master passed away. While he did experience some pain from it for a while, he learned that he was finally free. Free to achieve his goal of being Human. Dorris began to emulate the behaviour of the rich, such as having a nice apartment and wearing fancy clothes. He also began to find ways of becoming Human in the organic/physical sense. This was the start of Dorris' journey into becoming Human and understanding who he was.
No one can stop him. He is a free boy. With only the strings of a puppet holding him back.
Barbara - My previous master. I used to think that she was nice and kind. But, upon reflection. she wasn't. She was quite mean. She is gone now, though, so now I don't have to worry about her pulling me back.
Billy Chance - He was the first person who gave me hope. Hope that I could one day be human. He is mighty impressive, you know. He is so powerful yet he is never overly prideful of it. Billy is a very humble man. Yet, I know that deep down, he is probably hurting in some way. It seems that almost everyone I know experiences hurt in some way. Even I, a non-human, experience hurt more times than I could probably count.
Johnny Rooks - He's an arsehole. But he has helped me understand discrimination and what it truly means to be an "arsehole". He is also very good at helping me out in small ways when we do Contracts.
Dorris Green didn't have a childhood. He was made by someone. He was made to look like a child and yet he has never had the experience of being a child. Dorris was made to perform. For around 2 years, Dorris didn't end up doing any performing. But then, a woman named Barbara came and bought him. For around 36 years, Dorris was performing all over the world with his master. From the corrupted city of Las Vegas to the more respectable Blackpool, Dorris had been to many, many countries, met thousands and fans and, most of all, he enjoyed it! He loved being loved by the masses. Being recognised and beloved. Even getting Knighted by the Queen of the United Kingdom.
The life of a performer was one that Dorris enjoyed. Even if in between the happy memories are the memories of his master being cruel to him. Thankfully, his master is no longer cruel to him. For she is dead.
Dorris has never been in Love. Dorris has never experienced the feeling of Love before. Dorris has felt many other things in his "life" but love is not one of them. Love would not be the word to describe the feelings he felt towards his master. A better word for that would be obedience. Nor has Dorris felt any sort of Love towards the people he has encountered in various Contracts. Words to describe those feelings would be:
Perhaps one day, Dorris will experience Love. But it is hard to say whether he would be able to even identify this new feeling
