Loyabard's Questionnaire

1. What town or city do you live in? Why do you live there instead of anywhere else? Describe your home.

I now find myself in the city of Tucson, a deliberate shift from the affluent backdrop of my upbringing in Manhattan. The choice to settle here is a conscious departure from the privileged lifestyle I once knew. Tucson's rugged charm and distance from the opulence of the East Coast afford me the seclusion necessary to pursue justice without being shackled by the expectations of my well-to-do family.

My current residence is a hovel, a stark contrast to the grandeur of Manhattan. Nestled in a community outside the city center, my home is a reflection of my commitment to simplicity. The worn-down apartment, though lacking in extravagance, serves as a bastion where I can center myself, away from the trappings of wealth and closer to the principles that guide my pursuit of justice. It's not the most comfortable life but I make due and I go largely unnoticed here as to avoid anyone from my past catching up to me.

2. How do you get your money right now? What do you spend it on?

My current financial situation is far from prosperous. With my law license suspended, I've found myself strapped for options. To make ends meet, I've turned to driving for Uber, a pragmatic but humbling source of income. The meager earnings from these rides are primarily directed toward the essentials of survival – putting food on the table and maintaining the basic necessities of life.

Recently, as I've delved into contracts that demand a more covert approach, a portion of my earnings has been allocated to bribes. Navigating this precarious path requires financial flexibility, and while it's a departure from the lofty ideals I once held, it serves as a means to stay afloat in the turbulent waters of my current circumstances.

3. Describe your Ambition. What are you striving for? How far would you go to achieve this? Would you kill for it? How close to death would you come for it?

Link Answered after Contract 6, Honeymoon

My ambition, unwavering and fueled by a fervent determination, is to balance the scales of justice, particularly between the privileged and the disenfranchised. Witnessing the recurrent exploitation of the less fortunate by the wealthy has kindled a relentless fire within me. I yearn for a world where the legal system, intended as an equalizer, truly serves its purpose.

To achieve this, I am willing to traverse the darkest alleys of morality, risking life and limb to unveil the truth. The commitment to my cause is such that I would sacrifice my own life to see justice prevail. While my principles draw a line at taking a life for my ambition, I am prepared to walk the precipice of mortality, confronting danger and embracing the shadows, to realize the dream of a more just society.

4. What was the most defining event of your life (before signing The Contract), and how did it change you?

Link Answered after Contract 6, Honeymoon

Easily working as a defense attorney for those that most needed me. I was previously at a high powered law firm but my happiest cases were the forced pro bono work for the impoverished. I hated defending rich sociopaths that seemed almost gleeful with the notion that I could get them out of any type of penance for their heinous deeds. Doing this for many years lead me to the path that I am on now. Rejecting that paradigm and seeking for a new form of justice where all are judged truly equally and not in this arbitrary system today.

5. Name and briefly describe three people in your life. One must be the person you are closest to.

Link Answered after Contract 6, Honeymoon

My closest confidant is my mother, a pillar of strength and wisdom in my life. She helped me flee from the confines of my previous life and the shackles that would have kept me supporting a system I hated.

Another significant person in my life Elan, an FBI contact, a professional relationship rooted in trust and collaboration. This individual represents a bridge between the legal system and law enforcement, fostering a symbiotic connection that aims to uphold justice. The exchange of information and expertise contributes to a balanced and fair legal landscape, ensuring that the scales of justice are not tipped by biases or misinformation.

Additionally, Mick, a fellow lawyer is a crucial figure in my network. This colleague shares the journey of navigating the complexities of the legal realm. Our mutual dedication to justice fuels a camaraderie that transcends professional collaboration, creating a supportive alliance in the pursuit of fairness and equity. Together, these three individuals form a diverse and influential network that reinforces my commitment to balancing the scales of justice.

6. How was your childhood? Who were your parents? What were they like? Did you attend school? If so, did you fit in? If not, why not?

Link Answered after Contract 6, Honeymoon

My childhood was a tapestry woven with the threads of privilege and expectation. Born into affluence in Manhattan, my parents, pillars of the legal community, cast long shadows over my formative years. They were renowned lawyers, their wealth a testament to their success in navigating the intricate world of justice. Yet, despite their achievements, their legacy was a double-edged sword.

Attending prestigious schools was a given, a path laid out by the family tradition. However, the corridors of privilege often felt stifling, and the weight of expectation bore down heavily. While I excelled academically, the rigid conformity demanded by the elite social circles clashed with the burgeoning ideals of justice and fairness within me.

My journey through school was marked by a dichotomy – a clash between the legacy of family affluence and the call of a deeper sense of purpose. The struggle to fit in within the confines of a system built on wealth and influence sowed the seeds of discontent that ultimately led me to forge a different path, away from the opulence of Manhattan, and towards a pursuit of justice that felt more authentic to my principles.

7. Have you ever been in love? With who? What happened? If not, why not?

Link Answered after Contract 6, Honeymoon

Indeed, love has crossed my path, weaving moments of joy and sorrow. I was once engaged to a woman whose heart and mine beat in unison, or so I believed. However, when I expressed my earnest desire to renounce the trappings of wealth and privilege, an act essential to my commitment to justice, she chose a different path. Abandonment became the price of my convictions, as she opted for a life steeped in affluence over a shared journey towards a more just world. Love, it seems, can be a casualty in the battle between principles and the allure of privilege. The echoes of that decision resonate, a poignant reminder of the sacrifices demanded by the pursuit of justice.

8. What are your worst fears? Why?

Link Answered after Contract 6, Honeymoon

Among the shadows that haunt my restless nights, the specter of betrayal looms large as one of my worst fears. The fear stems from the profound abandonment I experienced when the woman I loved chose the comfort of wealth over the convictions I hold dear. It cast a long, chilling shadow on my belief in the resilience of relationships amidst the tumult of my chosen path.

Another fear that whispers in the recesses of my consciousness is the gnawing concern that my pursuit of justice might inadvertently lead me down a dark path. The fear of compromising my principles, of becoming the very corruption I strive to eradicate, gnaws at the edges of my resolve. It's a delicate dance, navigating the thin line between upholding the law and being ensnared by its flaws.

Yet, perhaps my deepest fear is the relentless grip of systemic injustice, the fear that my efforts may prove futile in dismantling the deeply rooted structures that perpetuate inequality. The fear that, despite my best intentions, the scales may never truly balance, leaving me in a ceaseless struggle against an indomitable force.

These fears, born from personal scars and the daunting challenges of my mission, serve as both cautionary tales and relentless motivators, propelling me forward in my pursuit of a world where justice prevails over the shadows that seek to consume it.

9. What is (are) your most prized possession(s)? What makes it (them) so special?

Link Answered after Contract 6, Honeymoon

Loyabards most prized possessions are a set of very nice pens that he got when he passed the bar, as well as his much better suits that he no longer wears when meeting clients. He has rejected his past life and generally keeps most traces of it buried away in the closet of his meager apartment so he doesn't need to think about them often.

The pens were particularly important to him because they came from his law professor, Dr. Higgenbaum whom Loyabard respected immensely. When Loyabard went to work for his families corporate law firm it was hurtful to Dr. Higgenbaum who died shortly later. He never got to see Loyabard recant on the path that his family put him on and turn to protecting those less fortunate.

Due to his current situation, loyabard also values his beat up station wagon that he uses mostly to drive for uber.

10. What is the biggest problem in your life right now?

Link Answered after Contract 7, Smart Cruise

The biggest challenge in my life right now is undoubtedly the wrongful perception of me as a sex offender and the subsequent removal of my legal license. These allegations not only tarnish my reputation but also undermine my ability to practice law and uphold justice. The mere accusation has far-reaching consequences, affecting my personal and professional relationships, as well as my mental and emotional well-being.

Losing my legal license not only strips me of my livelihood but also robs me of the opportunity to defend myself and prove my innocence through the legal system that I have dedicated my life to serving. The injustice of being falsely accused is compounded by the lack of recourse and the stigma attached to such allegations. Reclaiming my reputation and reinstating my legal license require navigating a complex and arduous process, fraught with challenges and uncertainties.

Despite these obstacles, I am determined to persevere and restore my integrity, trusting in the principles of fairness and righteousness that I have always upheld.

11. Describe a typical morning. How do you get ready to face the world?

Link Answered after Contract 7, Smart Cruise

As Loyabard rolls out of bed, the weight of his current circumstances hangs heavily in the air. He navigates through the clutter of his surroundings, a physical manifestation of the chaos he's grappling with internally. Downing a cup of cold, stale coffee, he braces himself for another day of uncertainty, opting to drive for Uber as a means of temporary income.

Behind the wheel, the rhythm of the road offers a momentary respite from his troubles. Yet, with each passenger he picks up, he's reminded of the stark disparity between his current reality and the life he once led as a respected lawyer. The anonymity of his Uber passengers shields him momentarily from the judgment and scrutiny he faces in his professional and personal life.

As Loyabard maneuvers through the streets, he grapples with a mix of frustration, resignation, and a glimmer of hope. Despite the setbacks, he clings to the belief that redemption is possible, that someday he will reclaim his place in the legal realm and restore his tarnished reputation. Until then, he continues to navigate the twists and turns of his journey, determined to persevere despite the obstacles in his path.

12. If you were going somewhere special that you wanted to look your best for, what would you do to prepare? What would you wear? How long would it take you to get ready?

Link Answered after Contract 7, Smart Cruise

Preparing for a special occasion where I want to look my best involves several steps to ensure I present myself with confidence and style. Firstly, I would start with grooming, including a thorough shower, shaving or trimming my facial hair, and styling my hair neatly. Skincare routines like moisturizing would follow to ensure a fresh and polished appearance.

Next, I would carefully select my outfit, opting for my last suit from my time as a trial lawyer. This suit holds sentimental value and exudes professionalism, making it the perfect choice for special occasions. I would pair it with a crisp, well-fitted shirt, complemented by a tasteful tie and polished dress shoes.

Once dressed, I would take the time to accessorize thoughtfully, adding subtle touches such as a classic watch and cufflinks to enhance the overall look. Finally, I would spritz on a hint of cologne to leave a lasting impression.

In total, the preparation process would likely take me around one to one and a half hours, ensuring I have ample time to attend to every detail and step out with confidence, ready to make a lasting impression.

13. What will you do for your next birthday?

Link Answered after Contract 7, Smart Cruise

Loyabard would likely opt to avoid acknowledging his birthday altogether. Given his current circumstances and the challenges he's facing, he might view his birthday as a reminder of the setbacks and disappointments he's encountered. Instead of celebrating, he might choose to treat it as just another day, focusing on maintaining a sense of normalcy and routine amidst the turmoil in his life. Loyabard might find solace in keeping a low profile, perhaps spending the day engaged in solitary activities or focusing on work as a means of distraction.

That is all assuming he survives that long which seems like a dubious prospect.

14. What is your greatest regret?

Link Answered after Contract 7, Smart Cruise

My greatest regret is likely not standing up for what I believed in when it mattered most. There have been instances where I remained silent or chose the path of least resistance, even though I knew deep down that it was contrary to my values or principles. Whether it was out of fear, uncertainty, or a desire to avoid conflict, not speaking up has often left me with a lingering sense of remorse.

In hindsight, I recognize that staying true to my convictions, even in the face of adversity, is essential for personal integrity and growth. Those missed opportunities to advocate for what I believe in have taught me the importance of courage, authenticity, and standing up for justice, even when it's difficult.

Moving forward, I strive to learn from those regrets and approach future challenges with a renewed commitment to speaking up and taking action in alignment with my values.

15. What is the nature of your Gifts? Are they inherent potential? Do harbingers just grant your wishes?

Link Answered after Contract 7, Smart Cruise

Loyabards gifts manifest through his warping of the world around him through his will and determination to bring about a better world. As his words are spoken into existence they take hold and begin to solidify in real tangible ways. Subverting the world around him to meet his wishes and desires in such a way that is beneficial. The seem to be his inherent potential elevated to the highest possible level, well beyond the realm of normal humanity. He paints a picture to his audience and makes them believe in what he's saying to such a high degree that it starts to become reality. Call it communal unconscious or wishful thinking or what have you when Loyabard speaks people listen and afterwards things happen.

The initial spark might have been started by a harbinger but from that point on it's been almost entirely Loyabards efforts to continue on this path.

16. How do you feel about spirituality? Are you religious? What do you believe?

Link Answered after Contract 7, Smart Cruise

Spirituality and religion have never held much sway over me. I've always viewed them with a degree of skepticism, preferring to place my faith in tangible actions rather than abstract concepts. While I respect the beliefs of others, I've never found solace in the rituals or dogma of organized religion.

Instead, my beliefs are grounded in the inherent potential of humanity, tempered by a stark acknowledgment of our capacity for both good and evil. I believe in the power of individuals to effect change, to champion justice, and to strive towards a better world. However, I'm also acutely aware of the darker impulses that lurk within us, capable of leading us astray if left unchecked.

For me, the pursuit of justice is not rooted in divine intervention or spiritual enlightenment but in the tangible actions we take to right the wrongs of the world. It's a pragmatic approach, guided by a firm belief in the agency of individuals to shape their own destinies and the destiny of society as a whole.

17. How do the events of the Contracts conflict with your worldview? How do you react when everything you thought was true is put in doubt?

Link Answered after Contract 7, Smart Cruise

Loyabard views these events as just a new stage in both his evolution as well as one for society. He intends to use these powers and the knowledge of these beings of phenomenal ability in order to try and adjust the scales of justice so that they are more balanced towards the middle rather then being so heavily weighted on one side. The people that have been maligning the world surely know of these harbingers and contractors and the power that is granted so they have likely been using it to further their own ends. Loyabard intends to stop that as quickly as possible. People deserve equal representation and influence in the judicial system and being monopolized by the rich before normal people even know of this existence is unfair.

Loyabards worldview hasn't really changed but the scope that he must try to adjust has grown much larger. It will be very difficult to do alone.

18. Give a brief description of the other Contractors you see often. What do you like or dislike about them?

Link Answered after Contract 7, Smart Cruise

Loyabard has only encountered two contractors more then once. Emily Miller a young girl that seemed standoffish to Loyabard if not actively with holding of information. And Henry Tem a mostly inept fat man who for some reason always seemed to be sticky.

Emily was encountered on Loyabards first mission in an abandoned mall, and then again on the disastrous school event that got him unfairly branded and got his legal license suspended. He's pretty sure that if he ever runs into her again she will be angry and quite possibly vengeful. Loyabard had a small hand in things going pear shaped but it was really the boy Jimmy who just went over the top and really made the whole thing ridiculous.

The other one Henry was encountered back to back. First on an auction that went again very very badly. And then later at a honeymoon retreat in south america where someone died and loyabard got side tracked.

19. Describe the perfect room.

Link Answered after Contract 7, Smart Cruise

The perfect room resembles a legal library, a sanctuary of quiet contemplation and scholarly pursuit. Its ambiance is one of hushed tranquility, with dim lighting casting a soft glow over rows of sturdy bookshelves, their aged tomes bearing witness to the passage of time. Comfortable chairs beckon, inviting visitors to sink into their plush cushions as they delve into the depths of legal literature.

The air is thick with the scent of leather-bound volumes and the faint aroma of antiquity, evoking a sense of reverence for the knowledge contained within. Here, amidst the serenity of solitude, one can lose themselves in the labyrinthine corridors of legal theory and precedent, emerging enlightened and empowered by the wisdom gleaned from the pages of history.
