Beech, Iowa, on the surface, is just a quaint little town. Barely even a hundred residents, not even large enough for a shop of any kind, relying on the various farmers sharing crops and tools. The largest landmark anywhere near the town is the Humility of Mary Catholic Church. Using this facade, the Catholic church has its hands all throughout the town. All members of the church residing nearby are vetted members of the Entity. Within the town and surrounding farms, various stashes and dead drops were made. Beech is used as an Entity cell operating within Iowa, the Father of the Church, Gabriel, the point of contact between operators and the greater network of information and resources.
Born on a farmstead nearby, Joseph always attended the Church every Sunday. It's where Joseph learnt the ways of the priest hood under Father Gabriel. Where he learnt to shoot from is Pa. Where he grew up. And where he began his initiation into the Catholic Church as an Entity operator.
Beech is equal parts his Entity base of operations, ready access to the greater Entity network, as well as his home, the place where all his closest friends and family.
Despite his job requiring constant travel, Jospeh will always called Beech his home.
The Entity supplies the Iowa cell with a budget of a few tens of thousands of dollars. Father Gabriel manages the finances, which gets distributed to all the operatives under his command. Sometimes these finances comes in the form of equipment, stipends or cash all transported via dead drops or obfuscated wire transfers into secure accounts. All requested by Gabriel to fit the needs of individual operators.
Joseph himself receives a budget of a few thousand, with permissions to request special items up to serial scratched small arms. Although most of this budget is allocated to covering travel expenses, such as flights, hotels or public transport.
Joseph strives to become the Pope of the Catholic faith, and be immortalised as a saint of God.
Joseph, a truly devout member of the faith simply wishes to grow closer to Heaven and God. Joseph fights with himself about how much he desires to achieve his goals, he struggles to know whether God wishes for him to burn the world of heretics and heathens, or grow through peace and love. Joseph know's God is with him, he knows he is bound for eternal life and as such he knows death is nothing for him to fear.
Joseph has killed for God, he will continue to do so as long as God wishes for it. He has initiated sinners into the flock, and will continue to do so as long as God wishes for it. Either by blood or by love, Joseph will strive to ascend the ranks of Gods army under the path and light of the lord. His blessing is all that truly matters for him, and knows that the path he walks will be paved by God, he only hopes that he does not falter.
The most defining moment of Joseph's life was his initiation into the Church as a brother of the Priesthood and member of The Entity.
This moment is what decided Joseph's path in life. Through the initiation he became closer to God than nearly any other. He received a direct blessing of God through it, the ability to borrow sight directly from the Angels watching over him. This came as an apotheosis, God's existence confirmed, his love confirmed, his power confirmed. And all this, realised, at the same moment that Joseph would serve as a true soldier in his army, and he loved it.
Through this initiation Joseph truly became devout, he wishes nothing more than to serve God loyally.
Father Gabriel. Father Gabriel is a mentor, friend and father figure. Gabriel taught Joseph everything he knows about theology and occult, as well as espionage and information gathering. The Father is an old man, somewhere around his late sixties early seventies with wrinkled and sun dried olive skin. He speaks with few words, and the ones he does use are usually jovial, yet confident, thick with a mediterrainean accent. Despite a close and trusted friend to Joseph, the Father is still quite the enigma, he keeps all personal or church information largely a secret from Joseph unless it's necessary. He is inhumanly shrewd and secretive with information. Any other brother or sister Joseph asks about Gabriel seems to know as much as he does.
Sister Paula. Paula ("Pale-La, like paladin!"), is a tall, stern woman with blonde hair and fair complexion even more of an enigma than Father Gabriel. Seemingly having sworn a vow of silence, having never spoken a single word the entire time Joseph has known her. Paula seemingly spends most of her time shadowing and protecting Father Gabriel, Joseph rarely seeing her by herself. Gabriel always asks her to run errands, deliver this message, deliver this, etc etc. All Joseph knows about her is that she is in some way blessed like him, having access to supernatural powers either gifted by God or the Church. And that she operates directly under Gabriel.
Felicia Hamil. Felicia is the widowed mother of Joseph Hamil, and the person he cares most dearly about. She is early to mid sixties, younger then Father Gabriel, with white hair and skin grey and sagging. She lives on one of the farms near Beech, Iowa. Occasionally coming to town on Sunday for church, or to visit and have lunch with old friends. While she is mostly retired, she occasionally helps her eldest son, Ezekial Hamil, run the farm with bookkeeping and paper work.
Joseph's youth was fairly average for a country boy. Home schooled by his parents. He was taught the basics of numbers and literacy, but for the most part spent most of his time hunting with his dad or working on the farm. For the most part, Joseph didn't mind, he had a home, had a place to stay where he is loved but he always thought there was more he could do.
In all, he had a fairly usual upbringing. That is until Father Gabriel approached him with the subject of him becoming a seminarian and joining the church. Joseph always enjoyed Church, it was a place where all the children of the small town met up. After approaching the topic to his parents with and gaining their approvals, Joseph began shadowing under the Father. Eventually, at the age of 18, Joseph moved to go study at Wartburg Theological Seminary to start his training as a priest.
Joseph has never had a so called love. Sure he had childhood crushes, maybe one or two dates with girls he met while in Dubuque studying at the Seminary but it never really went anywhere, it couldn't, he was going to be a priest after all. And ever since his ordination into the Church and initiation into the Entity, Joseph was always hesitant to truly invest in any other. He knew his line of work always carried a risk. He often debates internally about this, playing what ifs in his head. What if i never was a priest? What if i wanted to settle down and have a family?
However all despite all this strife he simply remembers one thing, he is a Priest. A soldier in Gods army. That comes first and foremost.

Joseph Hamil's most prized possessions would be the modified colt revolver that he carries on his waist, and the simple silver cross that he wears around his neck.
The revolver was a gift from his late father, Luke Hamil, when Joseph turned 18. His father was a collector of guns whether they be rare or common. Both Joseph and his father enjoyed spending time firing many of these guns on the local range or out on ranch, and while they enjoyed all the guns in the collection, they both held a special appreciation of revolvers. They would often joke about how it would make them feel like cowboys. However during the 2008 housing financial crisis, much of the collection was sold off much to the family's dismay. However Luke kept a gun for each of his children when they turned 18. Joseph received the Colt 1851 Navy revolver that was for the most part a display piece. Eventually, he and his father worked together to convert the old cap and ball revolver into a more practical piece, firing .38.
The cross is a gift from Father Gabriel after Hamil was inaugurated into the entity with his ordination as a Priest. The gift was a simple one, a plain cross like any other. It was laid upon his neck after all the vows and rituals were finished. Though the cross was simple, Hamil felt a connection to it like none he ever wore before. It felt like it radiated with divine fire that did not burn his flesh but his soul, cleansing it. And when the heat cooled to a dull warmth he felt like he could reach out to that warmth, and when he did was when he first discovered his newfound ability to see through the illusions of the material world.
Hamils biggest problem right now? Impotence.
A lack of knowledge, power, connections, strength. The basis of being able to enact his will on the wider world.
With knowledge of people comes power over them. With power over people comes connections one can exploit. With those connections comes the strength to take what one wants.
He has the ability to garner knowledge. At a speed far faster than a mundane human would ever dream of doing. He just needs to apply it. Gain knowledge of those in higher stations than him. Influence them from both the light and the dark. Play them against eachother. To use their power and strength to take for himself, and protect himself.
He just needs to do it. Solidify his resolve, stop doing nother and act. Act to protect himself from threats known and unknown. To cover up his own mistakes. Lest they render him incapable.
Every morning, Hamil wakes up at 6am. 5am on Sundays.
He starts off with morning prayer. At least half an hour. Reciting both common and dead prayers, asking for anything from good memory to true aim. Whatever he may ask for, he makes sure that his guardian angel guides him in whatever capacity it can.
He then stretches for another 10 minutes. In his life it's always good to be limber and capable.
He then takes a shower and gets dressed for the day. Following with a nice hardy breakfast. Making sure to split his daily bread with the angel.
He then spends the next hour or so going over his equipment. First disassembling, cleaning and re-assembling his revolver. While it's an old gun, he keeps it's in pristine equipment.
Then he makes sure all his other equipment is in place. His burner phones at the ready, his go bag stocked. And his guns loaded with more than just hopes and prayers.
