Eva lives in Seattle, Washington. She moved here when she got a job at the University of Washington. Her home is a small apartment in the Windemere neighborhood. She shares the apartment with her boyfriend Lucas Arrete. She makes sure to keep the apartment neat and tidy and presentable. She keeps it well decorated with matching furniture nerdy furnishing and glittering string lights. Many of the posters hung around her apartment are stylized biological diagrams including parasite lifecycles, anatomical models and cladograms. She holds a few strains of parasites in her personal collection as pet projects. They are kept in various terrariums and other dwellings either in her room or in the freezer. A few of the items in her fridge are out of date and have gone slightly off.
Eva works as a Research Assistant at the University of Washington. She is often up late working long hours in the lab on whatever research her superiors are currently trying to get published. Much of her income does wind up being spent on her bills. When she has money left over she does enjoy shopping for herself, buying new fashionable clothes and cute outfits. She also buys new furnishings on occasion to keep her apartment fresh and presentable. She always makes sure to expense enough money to maintain her personal parasites cultures and to put effort towards expanding her personal menagerie.
Eva strives to use her scientific acumen and supernatural prowess to cultivate lines of parasites which can prove mutualistic to their human hosts. She believes that in doing so she can better the world and take humanity to it's next level. She is a staunch believer in the greater good, she is willing to pursue her goal pushing passed all of the flack and hardship she encounters on her way. Even if others would call her methods gross or unethical she will push on doing what she must to achieve the greater good. She does value the sanctity of life and wouldn't lightly take one though she believes she would be able to steel her nerves enough to do what must be done in the unfortunate case that is the only way towards her goal. She truly believes that this is the best path for humanity and would willingly lay down her life if it was the only way to accomplish her goal.
Eva was a fat an unpopular child through much of her early life. Things changed when at the age of 15 she started suddenly and rapidly losing weight. As her figure thinned she felt a new wave of confidence and found herself part of the "in crowd" of her school. When the doctors told her she had contracted tape worms and needed to take medication to get rid of them she found herself with conflicted feelings. These parasites had drastically improved her life and yet everyone was telling her how harmful they where and how she had to get rid of them. She stayed up wishing she could find a perfect tapeworm that would control her figure without harming her health.
Charlie Dunn is Eva's father. While the two share few words they have an unbreakable bond. Eva knows her father would do anything to protect her. He is a conservative Mid Western man, Eva worries about his health knowing that her father doesn't go to the doctors even when he should.
Katie Morris is Eva's best friend from forever. The two of them grew up together and were thick as thieves from childhood all the way through high school. It did drive a bit of wedge between them when they left for different colleges. Eva undertaking a Biology degree at University of Oregon and later getting a masters at University of Washington and Katie earning her communications degree from Antioch College. Despite the distance between them the two often find themselves texting each other in the middle of the night and divulging their deepest secrets.
Therese Blay is Eva's sorority's sister from college. The two have barely talked since college but if they ran into each other they would instantly start talking and probably wind up getting into trouble together.
Eva was born in Suburban Ohio to the loving parents of Charlie and Winnifred Dunn. Her parents where always supportive of her growing up though Eva's propensity for partying and staying out late did cause them to butt heads several times. Eva maintained perfect grades throughout school taking multiple AP classes and breezing through her bachelors and masters degrees.
For much of her life Eva was not popular and failed to fit in at school. She was that weird fat kid that kept to herself. The popular kids only ever interacting with her to put her down and bully her. This all changed halfway through her freshmen year of high school. Eva went through a cestode induced metamorphosis. After an awkward transition period she become a social butterfly. Other kids would stick to her at school and listen to her every word. She was invited to and attending every party.
My biggest fear would be getting cancelled. I know that sounds dumb but I work in a very contentious field. Most people are grossed out imagining how their might be other creatures living within them. They're terrified at the prospect of those creatures being introduced purposely into their system. Even when those creatures could give them incredible abilities and help them fight of actual harmful infections.
I would hate to be scorned by my peers or friends if they discovered my goal and disagreed with it. My social life is very important to me which is why I make sure to keep it separate form my work. I haven't told any of my friends or even my workmates what my ultimate goal is. The only person I've ever confided my dreams in is Lucas, I figure he's weird enough to not be grossed out.
Worse than being social shunned or being treated like a pariah would be getting my work banned. If it was declared as too dangerous or immoral I could see further study into mutualistic parasite strain applications on humans being banned. This would be a worst case outcome for me as the my only path to bringing this gift to fruition would be through illicit, much more difficult means.
Eva has kept souvenirs from many of the major medical operations in her life. The tapeworm she passed when she was fifteen is kept suspended in a vial of preservative. Eva keeps these souvenirs in a hope chest usually stored under her bed. Along with the tapeworm she keeps her wisdom teeth, some of her deciduous teeth and a few other parasites extracted from herself and the most interesting ones she was able to source elsewhere.
This memorabilia serves as a way of remembering the past and of thinking towards the future for Eva. Remembering where they came from reminds Eva of her human nature. She hopes some day to be able to culture from her preserved samples in order to generate supernatural lines that would be able to help people. She has already become somewhat successful in this endeavor by regenerating and modifying egg cells from a few wasps she collected for usage in her Parasitoid Pheromone Registration.
My mornings have become much more rushed since beginning my PhD program. I used to spend an hours at least getting dolled up and ready for the days. Applying my makeup getting my hair just right, picking out the perfect clothes. Nowadays I still make sure to be presentable before showing my face to anyone other than Lucas. I still put on some simple makeup and tie my hair back in a cute way. The process has become much more rushed though.
Aside from making myself look decent I eat a small breakfast, pack a quick lunch and make sure everything is my bag. Ever since I cultured that Taenia solium I've been able to eat much heartier more filling meals without getting fat. More than helping burn the calories it allows me to worry less about balancing my nutrients and more about keeping my body moving. I never could have allowed myself to slurp down top ramen before, but nowadays it's the perfect quick meal.
