Lau lives in Oxford, England, and lives there because of his prior job as a professor and academic. He is on tenure there, under the cover story he studied here, and his father was a prior professor and he continued a family tradition.
He doesn't have many students due to his poor reputation, but the university are having trouble finding legal ways to fire him, so he mostly stays in his study or worms his way into getting grants for expedition trips to Egypt or other sites of occult importance.
He sleeps in a seperate room dug out behind a wall in his office, and uses that as a repository for his more esoteric research.
Lau mostly gets his money from his salary as a professor, but doesn't get as much as he could due to not working extra for bonuses and spending most of the money from grants on more trips to Egypt.
He is also saving up and gathering paperwork to move there, but is having trouble finding fully legitimate reasons, also needing the funds to transport the collection of occult supplies he has without the notice of mundane or supernatural powers.
Also, he tends to buy a lot of suits. He does care for his appearance, so tailored suits, new braces, gems for his cane. It is all manufactured to make him seem as pompous and unapproachable as possible, which is only a little untrue, mostly so his coworkers pay less attention to his actions and moreso to more petty insults.
