Dr. Jackie Shaw lives in Point Pleasant, West Virginia partially due to the supposed cryptid presence there. With the advent of the supernatural being potentially marked as true, growing up Jackie wanted to see if they weren't just fiction. Her house is something that wouldn't look out of place as you walk down the neighbourhood.
Although the outside it looks average, the inside is what can only be described as a hoarder's den and a research station hit a tornado. It's all a mess in terms of organization, but to Jackie it's an organized mess. Each room has a notepad and pen so if inspiration strikes she can make a note no matter what she is doing.
While most (potential) contractors probably don't have a line of stable income, Dr. Jackie Shaw has managed to land her dream job working as a Biotechnologist for the Department of Supernatural Phenomena.
At first she was looking into enhancing the human body with animal organs and parts to combat disease and infections, her research turned into something more. So much so she was noticed by the DSP.
This usually entails figuring out what creature (mundane and supernatural) is compatible with the human body in an effort to allow them to have an even playing field in the coming years. And her work has paid off enough that she has a comfortable allowance to spend for personal reasons (although she mainly focusses on her research with the money).
Ultimately, Dr. Jackie Shaw's goal is to ensure the advancement of humanity now that she is aware of the lurking supernatural threat in the shadows of the world. And to combat this she is looking to study the biology of any and every supernatural creature out there. Werewolf, Vampire, Mothman, even other Contractors should the opportunity arise. As long as she has a fresh and intact specimen and the organs are compatible with the human body, she doesn't care where the organs come from. She would prefer to not get her own hands dirty while using her Assistants to die in her stead. If she were to die, who would be there to advance humanity past their current state? Certainly not any other so called scientists.
Other than figuring out ways to safely (physically) enhance the human body, probably figuring out a way to make a facsimile of human life. The reason for this? Human test subjects are usually too hard to come by, and it's better to work on something else first before working on yourself. So, when Jackie figured out her 'Hyde's', she was ecstatic. She eventually managed to refine the process that they have a rudimentary intelligence for basic communication as well as being the perfect assistants to lift and hold heavy organs in her lab.
With this breakthrough in false life, she has moved her Enhancement Research onto herself, allowing her to better survive this new hostile world without many people thinking otherwise on inspection. And eventually, after refining Assistant Hyde, she will fine tune herself to be the best Jackie Shaw she can be.
Dr. Frank MacCready, DSP Cybernetics Expert
Instead of focussing on the supernatural to improve humanity, Dr. Frank MacCready looks to improve humanity through cybernetic augmentation. Sure it's a different field of work to her bio-augmentation, but the two doctors have a friendly rivalry going on, comparing notes to improve on each other while also competing with each other every month to see who has made the biggest breakthrough. Even though Jackie Shaw is a little... Much, Frank MacCready enjoys her eccentricity as it reminds him of Evil Scientists from the many cartoons and comics he consumed in his youth. When not working on their individual research projects, the two usually spend one day together each month relaxing with numerous fantasy and sci-fi movies (if only to point out inaccuracies).
Connor Johnson, DSP Research-Site Director
As the research site director where both Dr. Jackie Shaw and Dr. Frank MacCready work at, he has a tough time reigning in the pairs 'muchness'. But at the end of the day he puts up with it due to the results that the both produce. Running on a mix of patriotism, caffeine and the almighty dollar, Connor doesn't care what goes on inside his walls, as long as the ends justify the means. Knows a little too much about the supernatural, but always seems to play it off saying it's a hunch for where his knowledge comes from.
'Conspiracy Carl', Leader of the Tinfoil Hats
An old university classmate back at Cornell, 'Conspiracy Carl' ran the 'Tinfoil Hat' club which was basically a place for those who believed in the supernatural and cryptids to discuss theories together in a controlled environment. Sure he never moved on to 'brighter pastures' like Jackie and Frank, Carl was still a knowledgeable person who helped out Jackie in making sure her thesis's were correct (very rarely). Nowadays he is a wilderness survival expert who attempts to find bigfoot and other cryptids in the wilds, and has a veritable knowledge of surviving with the bare necessities.
