Joseph Aisling lives in Folsom, California. He moved there primarily for work reasons as well as to be close to the headquarters for the IASD*, other than that he has no particular reason for choosing to live in Folsom, though he does like the atmosphere.
He did consider moving to the Uk but he decided that it would be too much effort to apply for citizenship, move over there, find employment etc. so he just went to California as it was easier and faster than moving to a whole new country and starting again.
*Stands for the International Association for the study of dreams and has its headquarters directly in Folsom, California.

*A person who studies dreams in a scientific context
Joseph Ashling has long held the theory of the existance of a "dream world", a realm which people tap into when dreaming and temporarily project into, Joseph Ashlings Ambition is to strengthen this connection to the point where it would be possible to truly pass into this world.
To accomplish this he is willing to do anything, he has always felt a strong connection to it, feeling detached from the "waking" world and thus being willing to kill, commit atrocities or even come to the verge of death if it means achieving his Ambition. the only thing that we can not bring himself to do to achieve his goal is to be confined as his reason for wishing to form this connection is to be truly free.
Joseph Aislings most defining event was a lucid dream he experienced, and it was what truly made him understand his ambition.
He found himself in an endless white void, a liminal space between dreams and reality. here he realised that everything within the dream world was a matter of perspective and imagination, that this more than just a creation of the mind, that it is a realm of its own connected yet seperate from the waking world. If he could connect the worlds anything would be possible to achieve.
This event single handedly led to Joseph Aislings Dissertation on the supernatural potential of dreams.
The person Joseph Aisling is closest to is his childhood friend Jake. Jake grew up in the same neighbourhood as Joseph and went to the same school, after highschool Joseph moved accross the country to pursue his PhD in psychology, specialising in oneirology. Jake took a job as a civil servant and moved to New York. They still talk semi frequently on the phone.
Mr Dryden, Josephs psychology professor and his reference for his thesis, Mr Dryden was a perpetually tired old man but he still taught one of the most interesting and informative lessons that Joseph had ever seen, Mr Dryden has since retired and gotten a lot better in terms of sleep schedule.
Isaac Aisling, Josephs younger brother who is currently attending collage on the other side of the country, due to Joseph being much older Isaac and him didn't have a conventional brotherly relationship however they still talk and Joseph often asks Isaac how their parents are doing as Isaac lives much closer.
