1. What town or city do you live in? Why do you live there instead of anywhere else? Describe your home.

Juan Pablo lives in Euless TX.  A suburb of the greater Dallas metroplex which affords him creature comforts as well as access to a busy airport for his frequent trips abroad.  He teaches at a local university.  As a fan of warm climates Texas suits him for the majority of the time, though he "vacations" frequently around the world, hunting evil.  He lives in a quiet 3 bedroom apartment finely furnished with curios and artifacts from all his travels around the world.  His upscale apartment complex has round the clock security and he rarely talks to his neighbors.  His pride and joy, apart from his extensive artifact collection, are his various motorcycles which he loves riding whenever possible.  When in his free time he can be found at a local garage where his bikes are stored, working on them.

2. How do you get your money right now? What do you spend it on?

While Juan Pablo works as a tenured professor, in reality his fortune comes from many investments over the years that have borne fruit and now continue to grow and grow.  He was an early investor in the ice trade of the USA and when refrigeration was invented he saw the writing on the wall and began investing in that.  To the tune of making a fortune over the years in GE, which he holds stock in to this day as one of the original investors.  He has various other investments in his stock portfolio and has a penchant for investing in local businesses around the world in places he has lived.

While not a spendthrift, he does enjoy nice clothing and his home is populated by an extensive wine collection which has cost him a fortune.  As a side effect of his healing abilities, he hardly suffers from drinking any kind of alcohol.  His chief expense above his frequent traveling though, are his motorcycles and horses.  He owns a horse ranch outside of Austin that he visits regularly and several motorcycles that he dotes on.

3. Describe your Ambition. What are you striving for? How far would you go to achieve this? Would you kill for it? How close to death would you come for it?

Link Answered before Juan Pablo Alejandro del Carmen Castillo's first Contract.

Over the years he has had periods of extreme obsession and periods of almost ambivalence toward his goal.  He has never been able to shake the need though, to right the wrongs in the world, especially concerning supernatural evil.  Even though in truth, it is difficult to remember his family's faces, he holds strong the desire to find them, always believing that they are still alive.  He has never successfully interrogated an evil spirit to find a way to travel to that hellish world from which they come but he knows that someday he will and when that day comes he will be ready to find his loved ones.

With the advent of the supernatural now becoming more common, he has refocused on his goal and is actively searching for those who could help him in this endeavor.  Juan Pablo believes that this other dimension, world, etc, is a place where time has no meaning and so he expects to find his family there still to this day.  Whenever possible he seeks to return evil creatures to where they came from, by any means necessary.  While he is careful of human life he sees no problem with destroying supernatural evil.  He will do so right up to the point that it will cause him to harm a human.  Given that choice, he would let the evil escape and hunt it another day.

He has come so close to death as to be it's shadow.  Though he does not know how unkillable he may actually be, he has been involved in many a horrible situation and he has always managed to heal from it and make it back on his feet.  He would willingly sacrifice himself to save another human from the threat of supernatural evil.

4. What was the most defining event of your life (before signing The Contract), and how did it change you?

Though his memory of it is weak, his exposure to the portal and subsequent infestation of his psyche with evil spirits has completely altered who he is as a person and has formed the basis for everything that he is today.

Juan Pablo began life as the 3rd child (2nd son) in a well to do family at the turn of the 18th century in Spain.  His father was a friend of Manuel Godoy and as such became involved in Godoy's machinations.  In order to secure his advancement in court, Godoy turned to the services of a priest who used black magic. When Juan Pablo's father learned of this and tried to expose Godoy, Godoy attacked and killed the man and set an evil curse loose that opened a portal to elsewhere, a portal that would suck in the entire family with the exception of of young Juan Pablo as he hid nearby in the room where his family was as they were drawn into the portal.  Within this portal were countless spirit beings, evil and hateful to the core.  Their goal, to enter our reality and cause mayhem and destruction.
In a twist of fate, the young boy was too far from the portal to be sucked in but still affected by its energies and this allowed evil spirits to inhabit his psyche.  As the portal closed the spirits were stuck within this child and could only rail against him ineffectually.

Surviving this experience, young Juan Pablo escaped and lived on the streets for a long time.  The spirits in his head caused others to assume he was crazy.  As time went on he found that the energy of these spirits had affected him and that he could also tap into their power and use it for himself.  The cost to this power was always suffering their near constant attacks against him.  He now suffers from nightmares as when he sleeps the creatures are free to fill his head with hellish experiences.  Even now, during the day at times he will begin to hear phantom voices that try to lead him into self harm.  To mitigate these things he has become addicted to a powerful drug that calms his inner turmoil and relaxes his stress so the voices become a murmur.

A side effect of this spiritual energy is that after reaching his early 20s he does not seem to age and is highly resistant to poison and disease.  He also heals incredibly quickly.

He has spent his life learning to control himself and resist the spirits within.  He is a passionate believer in the innate goodness of humanbeings and will always err on the side of forgiveness.  Over his long life span he has acquired a great many skills and lost them but his chief love has been the collection of information and the study of the human condition.  Having traveled extensively he relates well to other cultures and people and loves sharing his knowledge.

5. Name and briefly describe three people in your life. One must be the person you are closest to.

People in his life:

Juan Pablo is a loner.  He rarely enjoys close companionship with anyone as he knows it cannot last.  Over the years he has managed to find another supernatural creature that accepts him at face value and the two have been friends for over 40 years.  His friend is a tree like creature that lives in the jungles of borneo and is an extremely long lived species.  It goes by the name of Ershaw, which means solid and unwavering in it's language.  Ershaw has been a source of grounding for JP when the spirits within bring him to a breaking point.

Other than Ershaw, JP has no close relationships.  He moves frequently as his young age begins to show every decade or so as people notice he never changes.  His attorney Elwood Dowd has been taking care of him and his "heirs" since the late 1800s.  They are a distinguished family with a long history when he needs to disappear he can direct the Dowd family to process the changeover to his heirs.

There are no others that JP would consider, "close" but he has many friends now that the internet has taken over.  He has slowly began to learn to use email to correspond with others.

6. How was your childhood? Who were your parents? What were they like? Did you attend school? If so, did you fit in? If not, why not?

JP's childhood was idyllic up to the age of 8 when his father was killed and the rest of his family abducted.  Prior to that he spent his time with his mother and siblings learning the finer points of noble upbringing, even as minor as they may have been.

He spent the rest of his formative years living on the street and surviving as a beggar or cutpurse or whatever he could.  He learned all too well the darker nature of mankind the opportunistic nature that most have.

At almost 14 years old he was able to escape Spain on a sailing ship and for several years he traveled the coastal waters, always returning to his beloved country.  As he traveled he was able to find other cultures and people and see that most humans were simply scared and wanting to be left to pursue their own creature comforts in safety and peace.

After having traveled JP was given the opportunity to go to university and study on the dime of a wealthy benefactor he had come to know through sailing.  JP loves the study of medicine and helping others.  He has always kept up on this field of study.

7. Have you ever been in love? With who? What happened? If not, why not?

Link Answered after Contract 1, Pearl Diver

During his many travels JP has fallen in love several times, yet each time there is a longer and longer interval as he now hesitates to build deep relationships since others age and die so quickly.

His first love was Catalina del Socorro, the daughter of a poor fisherman.  A beautiful young woman who he married when he started going to the university.  Unfortunately, she passed away from an illness only 5 years into the marriage.

Since then he has had sporadic relationships and as he noticed that he failed to age he began to retreat more and more from complicated ties to others.

JP would love to be in love but he understands the difficulty it would cause so he abstains from more than casual encounters.  Now seeing the rise of the supernatural he begins holding out hope of finding another like himself that may not age.
