I live in the biggest city I could find-- to follow the biggest and best news stories, you have to go where the people are. And my hometown was truly anything but that. I jumped on the first chance that I had to leave that little town behind. In my case, the first opportunity came in the form of a college admittance letter. Since then, I've gotten my degree in journalism and now hope to become one of the best reporters that has ever lived.
My apartment itself is less than luxurious. It's a dingy little studio (and frankly, some days it feels like I can barely afford that, even).
Money is fairly tight at the moment, unfortunately. I nearly had the perfect job lined up after interning with the biggest newspaper in the city, until Sabrina came along. We've been rivals from nearly the first moment that we met in college. She's nearly my equal in investigative prowess, which I would respect her for if it weren't for the fact that she's constantly in my way. No one gets the praise for being the second one to report breaking news.
As of now, I've been earning what scraps I can from commission work and odd jobs. But some day soon, I'm going to prove to the papers that I was the right choice all along. I've been thinking about what kinds of stories could be the breakthrough I need, and I've got a new idea: become a contractor, and give the inside scoop.
In the world of investigative journalism, you certainly... *ahem* see some things. I've had my fair share of close calls in the field, hunting down dangerous figures and unveiling dark truths about powerful figures. I've learned to become pretty cool under pressure, so a close call here and there is always worth it for me if it gets me closer to what I want.
I would describe my goals as twofold. Firstly, I would love to get back at my rival, Sabrina Drake, for stealing my dream job. But more importantly, I want to be the best investigative journalist that this city has ever seen. And I think a contract is just what I need to make that happen.
