Johnny lives in the outskirts of the city, in a small shed near the repair shop he works at, filled with all his unfinished projects. He used to live deeper in with his mother but she passed away from an illness when he was 12. His father was never there. He can't bring himself to leave the city his mother raised him in even if he's gone through unpleasant things living there alone as an orphan. He has a job, some friends and makes a decent living, so moving would just be starting anew and he fears the challenge. He loves his little shed but dreams of having his own workshop one day
Johnny gets an average salary working at the repair shop, the owner took him in after his mother passed away and he's been working since. He also makes some cash on the side fixing old junk he finds around the city and selling it. He spends most of his money on tools and materials for his creations.because of his ability to fix things he doesn't need to spend as much on appliances and makes do with things he finds and repairs. He also gambles sometimes as a guilty pleasure but not letting himself too much playing cards with the neighborhood roughnecks
Johnny's dream is to use his creations and technological abilities to improve his and the lives of those around him, from transportation to prosthetic limbs he believes using technology for good is the answer. He follows this dreams fervently risking himself with dangerous experiments to improve his work (seen by his prosthetic thumb). Because his dream is not only for his sake but for the betterment of the world he wouldn't take a life to advance his goal, even those who oppose him. He keeps the danger to himself and spends most of his free time on his passion going far as multiple sleepless nights and forgetting to take care of himself while engrossed in work. He would work himself to the bone to reach his goals
The death of his mother. Having no father in his life his mother was the apple of his eye, she worked as a mechanic in the shop Johnny works in today. She would come back from work exhausted but would always beam a smile towards her son. Johnny takes great pride in who she was and her death devastated him. He was left with no family and the loss made him pull back from everything. He quit school and would sit in dark alleyways until the shop owner took him under his wing and introduced him to his passion for fixing and creating. His newfound dream and passion brought him back but he is still sensitive about the topic of his mother and he sees the shop owner as his new parent.
The person Johnny is closest too is the shop owner Graff, a grumpy old mechanic with a soft spot for children. He was his mother's old work partner and they built up the shop together as close friends. He is like a father to johnny and mentored him throughout his childhood, taking him in after his mother's passing, spurred by compassion and the loss of his wife and daughter to an accident. He is a brilliant mechanic able to fix nearly anything.
Leon, Johnny's best friend, is a street urchin who used to hang around near the shop, his ettempts to see if anything was worth stealing introduced him to johnny who would come to see his mother during work. The two have been closest friends since they can remember always getting into trouble together, Graff hating him for his lack of seriousness and troublemaking tendencies, but still has a soft spot for him thanks to Johnny. Nowadays he's the leader of a small gang, always trying to get Johnny to join, who refuses because it would get into the way of his work.
Dan is a new apprentice in the shop, also alone in the world Johnny saw the similarities they share and decided to take responsibility for him, teaching him the ropes and keeping an eye out for him. He's a young introverted kid but greatly admires Johnny
