Ali lives in Rochester, New York, because RIT is there and it is not too far from where Mel lives. She wants to stay close so that she can protect him, but she knows she needs to work on herself in order to do that. Thus, Rochester Institute of Technology with a focus on Robotics and Manufacturing Engineering Technology as her major. She lives in a dorm with her roommate Charlie, who doesn't like to go out much and just focuses on their little projects. Most of the cleaning and food prep is done by Alice, which means the place usually looks like a hurricane went through it and they eat a lot of ramen.
A lot of her money is from scholarships and grants, and unfortunately most of it goes right back into the school and food. The rest of it gets spread around a little bit - some of it goes to paying Charlie for weird gadgets, and otherwise helping her to do her projects. The rest of it goes to her own projects. Weapons, ammo, the armor weave on her suit (that she just finished! Time to take it out for a spin...).
She also tries to keep some set aside each month for charities and victims of hardship that have it worse than she does.
Ali wants to make sure no one else ever has to suffer like she did. She wants to create a world without any killers at all, in fact. She will do everything in her power to make that happen. She has spent the last few years of her life while studying at college preparing herself for this task. She just finished her armored suit with the help of her roommate Charlie, and is ready to go out and put herself in danger to save anyone she can. In case it wasn't obvious, she will definitely kill for it - and she knows one day she will die for it. After all, in the world she wants to build there won't be a place for people like her.
Well. This is an easy one. Alice was eight when both of her parents were murdered. The detective on the case, Mel, took her in for a few months until they found her aunt. She took Alice in after that, but she didn't take the news well. It wasn't more than another few months living with her until she snapped and let the drugs dull her pain that no one else could help with. All Alice could do was watch. By her ninth birthday, Mel had to step back in and foster her. She's grateful, of course she is. But he shouldn't have had to do that. Now she needs to ensure no one else ever has to.
Mel, of course. He's done so much for Alice, and while she doesn't know if she'll ever see him truly as her dad, he is undeniably one of her dads. She knows if anything ever happens and she needs help he'll be there - and she knows if he ever needs her help she'll be there. No questions asked, whatever is needed.
After Mel, there's Charlie. She's Ali's roommate, and they work together on a lot of projects. What Ali lacks in practical skill at putting things together, Charlie makes up for. And what Charlie lacks in drive, Ali makes up for. Together, they've thought up and created Ali's armored suit. Hopefully that's just a taste of what's to come.
Finally, there's Professor Marty. He teaches the first class that Charlie and Ali had together, and helped them see how much good they could do together. It was all theoretical at the time, of course.
