Lazuli lives in a pirate hideout somewhere in the coast of the UK. She belongs to a clan of seafaring reapers that pillage coastal villages during the dead of night. The hideouts are often built on archipelagos and features elaborate European style cabins. The clan is shrouded in mystery and they have shrines that worship the moon and all its stages all over their islands. Lazuli was raised by the pirate chief in the hideout to one day succeed the clan, she had learned how to communicate with ocean creatures using her dizi, as well as summoning their powers in battle. The clan have sacred rituals relating to the local marine life.
Lazuli gets her money from odd jobs across the islands, she has the skills to catch fish, to be a mercenary, or take care of marine life. She would go on long voyages on fleets of black ships with razor sharp sails to learn the way of an undertaker. She might sometimes get a share from the bounties her clan-mates bring back. Lazuli has accepted a life in the shadows but she still have a soft spot for marine life, or any animals for that matter. Lazuli spends her money to find any trace of her missing brother, who she had fond memories in the past.
Lazuli prefers to stay silent on most issues, perhaps she believe her problems will go away if she doesn't talk about them. She followed her duty at a young age to inherit the clan's traditions without questioning much, however after her brother mysteriously disappeared, she became obsessed with the idea of finding him again. She began to sneak out at night and flip through forbidden books for anyway to locate her brother. Her clan had a religious code of honour in which they only hunt and kill people who truly deserve it and rob only from the most corrupt, thus Lazuli's code of conduct will not allow her to kill someone she deemed innocent. Going on expeditions have given her some leads to her brother, however, this involved forbidden arts to raise the dead.
Lazuli would often play her dizi just for fun. The music calms her heart and is soothing to the marine life. The bamboo flute belonged to her brother, whom taught her how to play at a young age. The disappearance of her brother wounded her, and she vowed to found what happened to him. During expeditions, she would often play the song her brother taught her, hoping to it might lead him back to her somehow. Growing up, she had endured rigorous training as a pirate and she became an exceptional swimmer as well as assassin, the elders of the clan taught her to use the powers of moonlight by infusing it with her scythe.
Lazuli's childhood is pretty fuzzy, she didn't have any parents, the elders on the island took care of her, as well as her brother, whom she grew up with. The brother's name is Lapis and he was the exact opposite of her, extroverted, curious and an airhead, how ever, the presence of family comforted her. Lazuli and Lapis would train together, and Lazuli would get frustrated since her younger brother seems to be better then her at every skill, including swimming, and moon arts.
The elder of the clan raised Lazuli and is the closet person to her other then Lapis. He had taught her all the rituals of the clan as well as how to survive in extreme conditions.
Someone who often goes with Lazuli on expeditions is Cobalt, another member of the reaper clan, he is a man of few words, but reliable. Cobalt is tall and have a extremely muscular build. he is one of the strongest members of the clan, and fiercely loyal. He had saved Lazuli many times during their trips and gotten them out of dangerous situations. Hes almost akin to a big brother figure to Lazuli.
