I um, I live in New York. The big Apple...hah
*nervous cough*
I've been here my whole life.
*twiddles thumbs*
I did want to leave a few years ago but I ending up finding a nice job as a bouncer. That's why I stayed. Got settled in a nice little one room apartment near where I work. Only a few stops away on the C. Huh? Oh its the...the uh...the line that the train goes down.
We have to do more questions?
*more thumb twiddling*
I can talk about my job I guess. Its nice to be able to help people. I don't need to talk a lot too. That's a nice part.
oh we're done know? that's great.
Um. Thanks for asking to interview me. Sorry I didn't have anything interesting to say. Oh you can still write the article? That's good.
(Earliest documented interview with Hush before his rise to prominence)
(This clip was found by a netizen many years after it's release, the program was called Humble Heroes. This documentary aimed to tell the stories of the hard working and humble citizens living in New York. The interviewees were picked off the street at random.)
What? But I thought...
Didn't I talk about my job already?
You want to know more? I'm not sure there's a lot more to say. I defend people to get my money? You could say I defend the bar and everyone inside. Sometimes I have to help inside when there's some people who get into fights. But everyone's always so nice! I don't even have to say anything most of the time. I just walk in and when they see me coming they usually get their stuff together and leave. Sometimes people forget to grab all of their things and I have to go after them to return them.
They always try to run away so fast even if I tell them they aren't in trouble.
Oh spending? Well I do have to pay a bit for my gym memberships. I have a few memberships. It's a little weird, but it makes sense! I promise!
So some gyms have really good machines for upper body workouts! Good chest press and rowing machines! And other have good lower body stuff! Belt squat machines and leg presses! It's really cool seeing the different machines and their maxes!
Oh sorry. The mic peaked? Does that mean I was too loud? I'm sorry. I'll just go now.
(The interviewer notes that interviewee teared up when he peaked the mic and did not stay to continue the interview despite the interviewer urging him to stay)
I don't like seeing people get hurt. Or robbed! Or...uh...there's a few different things now that I think about it. Seeing people do bad things makes me feel bad. So I always try my best to tell them to stop it. If someone's committing a crime and they see a witness they usually run anyways. When I try to help its hard because people get scared. I know I'm a big guy but I just want to help. I try to tell them it'll be okay but...
When I try to help and they get scared...sometimes I get too nervous to talk
I really want to help people though
Even when they're scared
Especially when they're scared
Everybody deserves to feel safe and live a happy life
That's what I want to do
Its what I've been trying to do my whole life
Help everyone
No matter what it takes
The most defining event? That's...well it's got to be the first time I saved someone's life. I was just out of college then. Majored in Exercise Science if you can believe it. Hah hah.
*cough*
Um. But the defining event, right. So I was just out of college
Oh did I say that part already?
Sorry
Maybe I should just skip to the
No I should say the whole story?
Okay
So I was on the train, I had just gotten out and then bam! I saw a guy with a knife trying to shake some people down. It was late at night so it was a little hard to see and I knew that if I waited the cops would take forever and its so hard to call and the guy was right there and so was the knife and that poor girl was just...
She was crying and I...
I don't know, I guess I knew exactly what it felt to feel like there's nothing you can do to change the way things are. She looked like she had given up. I don't know what was in her purse but I knew from the look in her eye that the bag was only going to leave her hands if she died then and there.
I had to do something.
But I didn't know what to say or how to say it or what I could do to make him stop so I just. I had learned a chokehold from a guy I worked out with on Thursdays who said he did jiu-jitsu. I went up behind him and grabbed him. Locked up his arms in a grip and pulled him away from the lady.
And she ran out right then! Hah Hah Hah!
I've never seen someone so happy in my life.
I never got to say anything to her.
I'm not sure what I'd say to her now if I saw her.
I think I'd say thank you.
She saved my life.
(The interviewer notes that this event has been a popular urban legend among New York natives)
People in my life? Like my friends?
Yeah I can think of three. I just need a second.
Hmmmm
My boss back in Ace is my friend. We're pretty close. I think. His named Jeffrey but he always tells me to call him J. He says that the first step to becoming a cool bar is having a cool owner. I think he's pretty cool. He always asks about my new routines when I'm working on a set rotation for each gym I go to. It gets a little hard to keep them in order sometimes. He's a really nice dude. I hope he knows that.
Carl is my friend too. He's a regular at Ace but he likes to hang around the door more than the bar. It's pretty funny! He's a funny guy. Always has good jokes to brighten up the long shifts. He's a great dancer too! Tears the dance floor up when he feels like it. Always get him a drink when he draws in a crowd. That's part of why Jeffrey lets him hang around by the door. Good for business I guess.
My closest friend? She works at the Grind House. It's one of the gyms I go to. They've got great machines for your calfs and quads. Always a clean place. That's because of Bethany! She's the janitor for the gym and a really nice gal. Always wants to help me when she's got a break. We work out on her off days but go to a different gym. That was the deal we made. I could take her to any gym except Grind House. She said she got sick of it after working there for so long. i guess I get what she meant. Working out wouldn't be as fun if it just felt like working. She's my favorite workout buddy and always helps me get great pumps!
