Mickey lives in Georgetown Young Unfortunates Psychiatric Hospital, and was taken in there years ago after being passed around foster care for an unknown amount of time. The staff there are dimly aware of supernatural phenomena, but due to Georgetown and much of Delaware being affected by a Veil of Mundaneity due to the lack of ley lines running through it, much of the staff percieve such phenomena as simply strange mental disturbances or rationalise claims as the symptoms of peculiar mental illnesses.
She lives there by necessity due to seemingly having no memory of where she came from, with memories occasionally returning through various therapy types, or after traumatic events or her monthly 'Incidents'. The facility is a small building housing around 10-20 patients, with 6 or 7 staff managing it, though they tend to struggle due to the nature of most of their patients. The place is underfunded, and so Mickey is often moved between hastily fortified rooms after Incidents, with most having some water or mold damage. The staff tend to be generally positive, but do range between uncaring and fearful of the patients there.
Mickey has no money except for a small budget the hospital allows her for purchasing items. She has heavily restricted item access, typically requesting books, comics, and puzzles to occupy her time, or old gaming systems such as Wiis or a used Gameboy Colour, for one. A lot of the budget also goes to fund her specific dietary requirements, with many of the cheap available food sources being inedible to her, so sources of meat or tests with meat-like products eat a chunk of her budget, as well as repairs for any damages caused by her escapes.
She does have a small collection of coins, but this is more for curiosity reasons than her desire to spend them, as she mostly fishes them out of grates or the floor.
Mickey's primary ambition is to connect with others. She very painfully wants some tether to her past, and some tethers to her present aside from the pain of transformation and the constancy and stagnancy of her confinement. She tries to squeeze as much as she can from each new experience, but it is always tempered either by her will or by the fear of the other in regards to her nature, which tends to happen with any new arrivals at the facility. She does also fear her own impulses in regards to becoming close to people too, as it stirs a lot of protective and animalistic feelings within her which would be alienating and unsettling to others. For this reason her secondary motivation is to rid herself of the Beast, but she's very unsure what she would be without it.
Mickey knows something happened to her to give her this twisting fear around her own nature, but can't actively recall it. Within her memory, the most defining event was her first remembered transformation, tearing up the walls of the room, and waking up covered in blood (thankfully, it was from blood packs she'd raided from the medical room) and in a straitjacket at a young age, then looking at herself in the mirror and seeing someone slightly different looking back at her. This pattern did continue, and the dread has somewhat carried over as she's aged, and her incidents become more severe rather than less.
Dr Piper McKnight - The floor manager and Mickey's medical advisor, who supervises her physical health as well as managing a few of the other members. Semi close relationship, but mostly with her repeatedly wondering how Mickey managed to 'self-inflict' the injuries caused by her transformations. Does not seem to believe actively in the supernatural, but does provide her with painkillers and other medication to help her.
Georgie McCollough - Mickey's therapist and phyciatric consult. Appears to believe in the supernatural or at least acts like Mickey is telling her the truth. Does talk theoretically about a lot of things, does put her requests through for extra restraints and helped her get her diet fixed as a true medical issue not a niche eating disorder. On friendly terms.
Kip - The closest thing to a friend Mickey has currently, an animal-shifter or animal-person of some kind related to mice, around her age but because of a lack of dates it is just a guess. Mickey currently instigates most conversations and is 60% she enjoys talking to her and isn't just too scared to ignore her.
Most of Mickey's childhood is a mystery to her, only really having memories of showing up at the ward, knowing really only her name and an estimate for her age.
It's been estimated by the staff at the hospital that she's Italian - American, but because of a lack of personal information they don't have solid ideas. She knows she must have attended school or been educated before, since she had concepts for lots of basic things, and was literate to an age appropriate level when she was found.
She does have an education schedule where she's currently finishing up a 7th grade equivalent, and she gets along with a few students (namely Kip) but still doesn't have too many super close friends given they don't get a lot of time to hang out at the moment. She would technically fit in more here than she would at a standard school though, for obvious reasons, so she does think about that sometimes for some relative comfort.
Mickey has never had non-platonic affections for anyone at this time, being mostly out of touch with anything related to that, and focusing more on establishing other connections.
She does also feel somewhat concerned about those feelings, with how the Beast affects the way she connects with others. She does see the irony with how her closest friend is a mouse-shifter, and is glad she hasn't yet had any sort of compulsion to hunt or eat them... She's glad about that for the others too, aside from some hazy memories of people in her past that may or may not have fallen victim to the Beast.
