Florere Elmara's Questionnaire

1. What town or city do you live in? Why do you live there instead of anywhere else? Describe your home.

Florere currently lives in a cottage, on the edge of a cliff near the redwood national forest of Northern California. They chose this location due to its privacy, and ease of access to living things that are of an exceptional old age for study and research, both from the forest and the sea. There have been several attempts from the scientific community to get them to relocate to a more civilized area, if just to keep a better eye on them, and yet they have refused every time. While the main living space is simple and compact, with only the bare minimum needed for survival, over three-quarters of the cottage is taken up by their complex laboratory.

2. How do you get your money right now? What do you spend it on?

Currently their main source of income is grants from the government for research, as well as selling some of the less dangerous studies on the black market. While it seems they make just enough to keep the place running, in actuality the deals they’ve been making to research and produce vials of unearthly potions and poisons has been more than enough. Any extra money is quickly spent, however, in their pursuit for better equipment, more supplies, and any needed repairs. Several devices have been half torn apart and put back together to keep them running without having to spend more money buying a replacement.

3. Describe your Ambition. What are you striving for? How far would you go to achieve this? Would you kill for it? How close to death would you come for it?

Florere’s ambition is to end suffering, be it emotional or physical. Their first step in this is to categorize what causes suffering, and what stops it. Their findings have found that the major sources of this are death, ruin, and corruption. This has then lead to their next goal, which is to prevent these from happening. The first requires insight from those who are able to withstand old age, which is her main motive to her location. Figure out what lets them grow far older than everything else, and eventually put a stop to it. They’ll also need to prevent injury and sickness, be it from the more standard physical wounds, or the more esoteric ones such as emotional or psychic. For ruin to be solved, they would need to develop things that resist the wear and tear of time, the destruction of man, and the sheer power of nature. Corruption is seemingly impossible at first glance. There will always be people who will step on others to get what they want, and entities who do not care for the plight of humans. As such, this has been the most difficult of the three for them find a solution to.

4. What was the most defining event of your life (before signing The Contract), and how did it change you?

For Florere, it would be difficult to pick from amongst several, with top contenders being massive volcanos erupting and obliterating everything nearby, massacres of entire groups of people executed on the whims of the few, and so on. But in the end, they would likely pick seeing the after man of Hiroshima and Nagasaki being nuked. Two entire cities, rendered uninhabitable for years, families wiped off the earth, knowledge being lost, all over the feuding of a couple of countries that started because of one man. This lead to them swearing to never let this happen, and prevent it from occurring in the first place. People will always build worse and worse weapons, causing endless suffering, until someone makes it so they can’t do that anymore.
