He lives in the middle of London, and has done for the vast majority of his life. It's a huge area of opportunity, and home to plenty of organised crime, which is perfect for his set of skills. It also has everything he needs, and he's never left the city of country in his entire life....Until now of course. He's not excited for this, but in this scenario, his opinion isn't really taken into account. His home is a small apartment, tucked away in the heart of London. His house, where possible, is filled with different trinkets and collectibles that could be worth a penny - Or so he thinks.
Money is everything to Justin. Using his brilliant charisma and solid intellect, he can work his way around conversations as if its something as simple as doing his weekly shop. Therefore, with this in mind, he naturally found himself with a Law degree, becoming a Lawyer. But, that just wasn't enough money, and perhaps he wanted something a bit more exciting for his life. So, he got himself into organised crime, being a criminal lawyer. He was a natural fit into such things. There's plenty of money to be made in this area of work, and he always gets his fair share once he gets a member of a gang off the hook.
His ambition is simple: Earn his fortune and gain fame. To become a master of manipulation with his silver tongue is one of his biggest ambitions. The money part is simple, with a good, vast amount of fortune behind him, he can leave behind a legacy that all shall remember. Furthermore, he enjoys the idea of wealth backing him throughout his life. The lengths he would go to so that he can achieve these goals are limitless. He is morally grey, willing to commit to the morally bad or good things. He will do anything for money, anything for fame and anything to bolster his own chances at success. Would he take a life for it? He would. Would he risk his own life for it? He probably already has, but yes he would.
Getting caught up into the wrong crowd is sort of his whole deal. However, sometimes it can get awry. And this time it did. Failing to put down his client's sentence, Mr. Case was in trouble. The client sent some enforcers after him, and they wanted to make sure Justin got what he deserved. Justin is not the strongest person, so when it comes to physical conflict, he almost always falls short. The solution was simple to Justin. Use his gun. And so he did. And so the Enforcers are dead. However, it roped in the attention of the law, and they caught him red-handed.
Ex-Judge Elliott Brandt: His old Mentor and gateway into the criminal underworld. He taught him the tricks of the lawyer trade, but is now retired-Fired even and served a light sentence for taking one too many bribes. He was fantastic at his job, and for a very long time he knew how to go through hidden loopholes, legal and illegal, and not get put in the slammer for it. Elliott is definitely the person he is closest too.
Vincent, 'The Vest' Polio: The man who gave Justin his first case, and offered him a client into the underworld. Nicknamed, 'The Vest' for his golden coloured vest, he was a common enforcer for a London mob gang, 'The Purple-Foot Gang', and although it was only a small job and didn't result in extreme riches, it still opened a door for him into the criminal world. He isn't really in contact with Vincent anymore, but as far as he knows he is still very much alive.
Pastor Graham 'Gazza' Granville: A priest who is in charge of a mega-church, which also acts as a money-laundering operation. He's charismatic and able to manipulate people with his ideas of faith. He's quite old, and has seen Justin grow up and helped shape him into the person he is today. He sends his churchgoers who have, 'Fallen into sin and need guidance' to Justin, who helps him out. In return, Justin not only gets money from it, but also a way to successfully and quietly launder his own money.
Justin's childhood was quite the opposite of what his future would be. He was raised in a well-mannered, stable, loving household. He attended a private school, receiving a brilliant education. He had plenty of friends, from all different groups with varied likes and dislikes. The key was to fit in where he needed too, sometimes completely adjusting his own personality, characteristics and opinions to fit into each group. Ultimately, there wasn't a child in that school that frowned upon Justin.
The one thing that Justin truly had a knack for was using his voice box. When it got him into difficult situations, it would be a walk in the park to then talk his way out of it. He found himself rather enjoying the thrill of purposefully getting into trouble, not serious trouble really, but then talking his way out of it. His parents highly frowned upon this highly, but the thrill was just too much for Justin, therefore he'd continue.
His parents were educated, polite and caring towards Justin. They worked hard for their lot, and had a comfy amount of money to get by. They supported him when he needed it, and provided discipline when he required it. Due to Justin's criminal dealings, his parents no longer have any contact with him. So far, he hasn't spoken to them in around 6 years. Does this bother Justin? Sometimes. But life is full of hardships, and the world will not stop for his feelings and emotions. So, therefore, he must continue pushing forward.
Hyper-focused on gaining fortune and fame, Justin has never truly known love. Nowadays he hasn't got the time or patience to wait for love to come to him, nor will he go chasing it.
He was close one time, but compulsively lying is absolutely not a way to win one's heart. He tried, he truly did. But, he is what he is: A compulsive liar who can't help but manipulate a conversation. Therefore, he essentially pushed her away.
Sometimes he does often think if his life would be better with a lover at his side, but to deter these thoughts, he chooses to keep hard at work, earning his wealth day-by-day.
Failure and betrayal never used to be things that Justin feared. Until, one day, a client betrayed Justin by feeding him lies. As a result, Justin was caught out within the court, and his client was not too pleased at all. Neither was the Mob that his client worked for. As a result of this failure, and the Mob's reluctance to listen to reason, Justin was taken to a remote location, tied up and blindfolded. Nothing but the sound of distant horns from cars going off in the distance, and the sound of water flowing. When the blindfold came off, Justin was surrounded by a few armed men and a man in a dress suit. The guns were pointed directly at his head, and they were questioning why Justin's client was in Prison for life. Justin adapted to the situation, under immense stress and fear, he started yapping like never before. He brought out words that you'd have to root through the Oxford dictionary to find. He used every single charismatic bone in his body, and eventually, they listened to reason. Justin managed to get off with a few bruises, bumps and cuts. Ever since that frightening day, he has feared failure and betrayal above all else.
Justin Case has a lot of weird doohickies and trinkets stashed around his small apartment. Some are worthless, some are not.
One of his most valued possession would be a genuine Samurai Sword, which he has in a glass case upon his cabinet. It's worth quite a large amount, but Justin likes to keep it on display, to impress those that enter his house, and just in case (HEHEHHE) there's ever a Zombie Apocalypse. Having a Samurai Sword in that situation would be extremely useful. He got it from defending a client in court, who was a collector of pristine, historic items. The guy was absolutely broke, which he failed to tell Justin, but he gave him a cool Samurai Sword as a way of payment.
Another cherished item Justin has is some fine China, which he only brings out for the most severe situations. Such as, if Justin has beans on toast for tea with Heinz beans. Or, if Justin has some expensive apple juice. However, on Justin's budget, that's severely unlikely.
Justin Case has many problems in his life, but his biggest one? Most likely his insatiable lust for fame and wealth. It’s more than just ambition. It’s a driving force that overrides his better judgment. This relentless pursuit often clouds his thinking, dulls his empathy, and sabotages his ability to solve problems rationally. If Justin senses even a glimmer of opportunity to benefit himself, he'll take it without hesitation, often at the expense of others or even his own long-term stability. He’s no stranger to betrayal or manipulation if it means advancing his position, which is highly hypocritical of him, considering betrayal is something that heavily torments him when he is the victim of it. Deep down, he may recognize that this path is unsustainable, that the bridges he burns might one day be needed again. But regret is something he saves for later. The way Justin lives, it’s always about the next deal, the next spotlight, the next payday. It's a mindset that's carried him this far, therefore why should he change it now?
In his mind, survival and success are one and the same.
His alarm on his phone goes off, Justin leaps out of bed, doing his stretches. He gets himself ready for the day ahead by marching right into the bathroom, brushing his teeth and shaving. Clean shaven is the way to go in court - It keeps him looking presentable and young. Next, Justin heads into the kitchen, chugging lots of water, perhaps juice if he remembered to do his shopping. After the refreshing drink, he gets himself ready into his most valued suit. What looks like a bog-standard suit to anyone else, Justin had one optimally made for him and his small stature. He feels like a completely different man in the suit, as if he's ready to conquer the world just by himself and with his persuasive tongue. With the little time he has left before he needs to leave for the courts or his office, Justin practices his speech in the mirror, preparing possible defences to use in court, or any questions he may ask the witnesses that take the stand.
If Justin Case were going somewhere special - like a high-profile meeting with a client, a courtroom packed with cameras and a stern jury, or a party filled with potential clients - he'd treat it like a performance. Looking his best is part of the brand, it's the whole shtick of being a Lawyer. He’d start with a fresh shave and sharp haircut which was probably booked at the very last minute. He’d choose his sleek, custom-tailored suit accompanied with his red traditional tie. His designer shoes would be polished to perfection, cufflinks gleaming, and just a hint of expensive cologne. He wouldn’t just walk into a room, he'd arrive in great fashion, striding as if he's been in that room all day - As if he belongs there. Getting ready might take him an hour or two, but that’s because appearances matter deeply to Justin. Image is power, and power is everything. Every detail is calculated, every gesture rehearsed. In his world, looking like you’ve already won is half the battle.
Birthdays? What a waste of valuable time. Back in the day, perhaps these things meant a lot to Justin - Opening presents, checking to see if there's any money in his cards, all that kind of stuff is behind him though. What matters now is fame and fortune. Taking time off for his birthday's is a frivolous pursuit, which only wastes precious time which could be better spent expanding his client list, or reaching out towards different people. Having people sing 'Happy Birthday' to him and having a slice of cake doesn't really appeal to him anymore. A deeper look into this, and you'll learn more.
Perhaps none of that really means anything to him anymore, because he hasn't had such things since his parents disowned him. He doesn't hold that against them, Justin made his path, and it wasn't a very legal path. But, he's hardly made to feel special anymore, nor does he have anybody that could celebrate that special part of him.
Justin's greatest regret is, stated in quite a harsh way, himself. Justin is a compulsive liar, who manipulates those around him without even knowing it sometimes. He can't change who he is now, or so he believes. So, he has to live with it. Having these troublesome traits always tends to lead to pushing everyone away from him, or making them hate him. It's not the outcome he wants, but it is usually the outcome he tends to get. However, the exception being the current group that he is with, but even that is causing inner-conflict inside of him, which is causing him to question his motives and beliefs.
Moreover, he regrets some of the choices he made to get himself into this position in the first place. But, as he sees it, what's done is done. He can't change the past, so he must now move forward with what he is. He utilises it to his own benefit now, and is quite content with him. Although, this doesn't remove the regret, which is buried deep within his chest.
Quite clearly, the nature of Justin's gifts stems from his occupation and silver tongue. Instead of providing Justin with charismatic prowess, it only deepened his ability to use his voice to manipulate others. Using his voice and his words is Justin's way of life. Without his charisma, he wouldn't be in the Lawyer line of work, and wouldn't be in this contract in the first place. His voice is what makes him special, it's what gives him the edge over others. Supposedly in a way, the gifts leech off of his potential, bolstering it immensely. These work so well for him because Justin is already well versed in the charismatic ways, so essentially the gifts only improve that. Being able to blag his way past guards, put up a solid defence for himself or others, and manipulating people to do his bidding all build of the foundations that the gifts provide.
Justin is not religious, although he was raised in a Christian household, and is baptised. Growing up, Justin slowly altered his beliefs to that of an atheist. Fast-forward to current day, the only god that Justin bows down to is money. In terms of spirituality, Justin doesn't believe in any of that hocus-pocus. Things like Karma, eye-for-an-eye - It's all just made up nonsense to try and influence people to do good in the world. He's not an evil person, but he believes that good people are good, and the bad are bad, nothing can or will change that. He believes that, deep-down, a person can not change who they inherently are. Sure, they can always try, and sometimes put on an act for a while, but they will always be the same person that they were before this act. And sure enough, that act of theirs will eventually crumble down.
He believes that money makes the world go around. There's no point contesting that, he thinks. Therefore, he might as well take advantage of that fact and hop on the ever-turning cog that makes the world go around.
Justin is a jaded-character with a clear conscience. So, the events of the contracts haven't really phased him. Of course, that isn't to say that it hasn't confused him or have him perplexed. Seeing dinosaurs that aren't in the Jurassic Park movies, rather right Infront of his face, has been a rather shocking revelation. But, he sets his sights on the outcome of these contracts: gaining new gifts and improving his skills. However, currently, the contract is having a slight effect on his view of things. For example, his stance on friendships and allies. It hasn't completely changed him as of yet, but it has brought conflict into his mind, conflict that he desperately tries to shut down and ignore. However hard he tries though, it just isn't possible to do.
If Justin experiences something that implements doubt into his mind, he looks at the bigger picture. By the end of this, Justin was promised fame and fortune, which is what he's worked his whole life for. So, if he needs to shrug off some magical mumbo-jumbo, he will do just that. After all, he'll do anything to achieve his goals in life.
