Lady Yu's Questionnaire

1. What town or city do you live in? Why do you live there instead of anywhere else? Describe your home.

This noble lady is currently dwelling in what appears to be some form of neglected housing for scholars that have no family or political backing. In some ways, there really are no differences between my world and this one. Truly, there is still a problem wherein it is difficult to gain support or even notice. I hate to think how difficult it would be for an actual child. But, I am used to harsh training. This is no great matter to me.

Regardless, this was all arranged for me with the help of a beneficiary. It seemed the original owner of this body was recently kicked out of a domicile that was owned by her lover--or perhaps a very close friend? I haven't been able to tell. Unlike in the stories, I have nearly no memories associated with the body that I inhabit now.

2. How do you get your money right now? What do you spend it on?

Another predicament that the original owner of this body has left to me. This Noble Lady is uncertain what she even did. Perhaps she was a poor student? This Noble Lady admits ignorance regarding what scholars who have not passed their exams can even do for money before they pass and receive a government post. It probably would not pay much. Luckily, this Noble Lady's talent with the Guzheng , the Pipa, and the Erhu remain intact--although the fingers of this body are a bit clumsy.

Again, thanks to This Noble Lady's benefactor, arrangements have been made that This Noble Lady may perform for money. Otherwise it is not clear where any living expenses might have come from. The original owner of this body did not seem to have any familial support. Arrangements have also been made to change the 'major' that this body was concentrating on to classical music. This Noble Lady has been told this is still a perfectly reputable and dignified course of study--and it seems the former owner of this body was ill suited to the study of history or business.

3. Describe your Ambition. What are you striving for? How far would you go to achieve this? Would you kill for it? How close to death would you come for it?

This Noble Lady was sent through time and space to another world by the King of Wu's venomous sorcerer and minister. There is no telling how the Wu state has effected this world, or if This Noble Lady could even return to mete out justice. Instead, This Noble Lady will have to settle for destroying the Wu state or their counterpart in this world.

How far? My. People of this world seem to lack discipline and resolve. Naturally, This Noble Lady would be willing to die for this cause. After all, this is the burden upon the shoulders of the strong. Although, it seems much work is required. This body still requires training and is unfortunately weak. Most of This Noble Lady's time has been spent in tempering and cultivating the limited Chi this body has.

4. What was the most defining event of your life (before signing The Contract), and how did it change you?

This Noble Lady was in a far better place to strike at her enemies before being transported to this world. It's hard to imagine, now. Being surrounded by comrades in the same sect. Being supported by the elders. Living in a body that was full of strength and vitality. Having easy access to things that I was used to...Well. It was hard to imagine all of that ending the way that it did. Death was always the assumption over something as bizarre as this. This Noble Lady didn't even have a chance to face that crooked minister--rather, the ritual and spell must have been cast as This Noble Lady was rushing to confront the King of Wu.

5. Name and briefly describe three people in your life. One must be the person you are closest to.

O-Natsu Abe is my honorable benefactor. Without this good lady, I would know very little of this very strange world and I would have no shelter or food. I was very fortunate to meet her, and it was truly a meeting ordained by faith. She has entered me into her employ in order to entertain at events at her family functions with my musical skills--and even procured for me several instruments of good quality. I do all of this with the understanding that I am my benefactor's ears and eyes at these events. A noble household is no less a pit of vipers than I remember.

Madame Fang is the landlady of the boarding house called "dormitory". She is strangely tolerant of me keeping odd hours, and does not ask many questions. We have an understanding amongst us. Sometimes if her group is short, I play one direction in Mahjong as a substitute player.

Camila Sanchez is a good-hearted elderly woman who owns a small dry good shop near the "university" where this body's previous owner attended studies. She is knowledgeable of occult matters, and keeps a good stock of herbs and other necessary supplies. She has assured me that the darker-skinned candle works better at exorcising evil spirits.

6. How was your childhood? Who were your parents? What were they like? Did you attend school? If so, did you fit in? If not, why not?

This Noble Lady was fostered into into an Orthodox Sect at a young age. It is This Noble Lady's understanding that while This Noble Lady came from a distinguished lineage, that it was more important to train in the proper environment. Rather than blood siblings or blood parents, This Noble Lady spent most of her time among the Sect learning and cultivating there.

It should be noted that This Noble Lady still practiced filial piety. Although, after so much time and with the addition of traveling to this world, This Noble Lady's memories are somewhat distant and vague. Perhaps This Noble Lady will make an offering to the ancestors when next the opportunity arises. This Noble Lady does wonder if their spirits will still be able to watch over her in this strange new place. It would be a comfort.

Perhaps there is a Taoist to be found somewhere about this city that could answer these philosophical questions.

7. Have you ever been in love? With who? What happened? If not, why not?

Love is a curious concept. This Noble Lady is not certain by what the questioner means by this inquiry. Most of what the common people refer to as 'love' is either a form of borderline-delusional limerence that is portrayed as more common and more intense than it actually is by stories and plays. In addition, people who speak of 'love' either have no sense about them, or are attempting to manipulate a would-be victim.

This Noble Lady understands that 'love' may actually exist in the world--but in a form that people rarely understand. Affection and companionship that are based on mutual respect and trust are rare to come by. These are true treasures in the world that one may be lucky enough to witness just once. This Noble Lady also understands that such relationships also need not be 'romantic' in nature. The best marriages are ones wherein both parties understand and support each other in their duties.

8. What are your worst fears? Why?

Link Answered after Contract 2, What a weirdo

Everyone has fears, and although we are trained to cultivate our minds and act with courage--even This Noble Lady has fears. If This Noble Lady had to choose one, it would likely be a display of incompetence that would otherwise indicate that she is utterly unable to protect the weak or otherwise unable to effect justice in the world. Yes, it is true that all mortals share the fate of lice on the grand scale. But, This Noble Lady would hope that she is able to act as a force of good to at least cancel out what bad she could unknowingly have wrought upon the world.

The idea of unknowingly causing more evil than good is utterly haunting. It's something that This Noble Lady does occasionally struggle with, despite the large amount of training this Noble Lady has gone through. As long as fortune holds, hopefully this will not be the case.
