Lunwin Varstop's Questionnaire

1. What town or city do you live in? Why do you live there instead of anywhere else? Describe your home.

Lunwin lives in Cambridge because he works as a researcher at MIT for a multitude of labs, not beholden to any one field of research. While he has been offered to transfer to other universities the projects he has at MIT are not yet complete. His home is only comprised of three rooms, a living room and kitchen combination room, a bedroom and office space, and finally a simple bathroom. He tends to keep his apartment clean, which isn’t hard since the only thing he has filling the space aside from the necessities are boxes of research equipment and documents. He doesn’t eat much either so his fridge is always empty unless a concerned undergraduate stops by and offers him food, a rare occasion but it does happen every now and then.

2. How do you get your money right now? What do you spend it on?

Working on dozens of projects across multiple labs at the famous university of MIT has given Lunwin access to high dollar grants and government contracts. An unfortunate side effect of this is that he ends up having to fill a good portion of his work schedule with meetings and conferences to appease the benefactors, them mostly being government officials and scientists. Since he doesn’t have a costly living situation and barely eats, he spends a huge majority of his money on acquiring materials for his labs. Since he buys stuff with his own money he doesn’t have to deal with university auditors asking questions when he acquired especially odd things.

3. Describe your Ambition. What are you striving for? How far would you go to achieve this? Would you kill for it? How close to death would you come for it?

Having been told by his parents that the universe is full of mysteries and seeing the supernatural on television, he has become obsessed with learning. He never truly left the why phase of his childhood and it instead just matured into an insatiable desire for knowledge that he can only barely satisfy with the occasional discovery. However, he grows increasingly frustrated when he reaches a scientific dead end and has to back track months of research, or even worse, years. While generally drawing a line at mass murder and human suffering, he isn’t one to be above the thought of human experimentation even if it leaves the subject disfigured or even dead. So long as there was a chance to glean knowledge from an experience it is most likely worth it, this includes potentially self harming experiences. His own mortality and natural fear of death is the only thing keeping him from turning himself into a science experiment.

4. What was the most defining event of your life (before signing The Contract), and how did it change you?

When he was sixteen years old, Lunwin had already shown great scientific aptitude and was able to participate as an understudy at an observatory. One day he was up watching the night sky with one of the scientists and as he gazed at the night sky, clear and and unpolluted by light, he saw the stars shine and as he sat there could of sworn he heard a distant hum of music. This faint melody drew him ever more to stare at the stars and more it played on. Nobody else could hear it when he asked, but when he stared up at the inky sky through the observatory telescope he would hear it. The song quickly became engrained in his mind and whenever he would stare at the sky he would hear it, faint and distant. It drove him to become who he is today, he sought to learn and maybe one day find the source of the melody.

5. Name and briefly describe three people in your life. One must be the person you are closest to.

Lorain Varstop - Lunwin’s mother and most supportive person in his life, at every step of his academic journey she has been there pushing him forward. While she herself struggled to attain the same academic success in her time in school, she wished for more from her son. Every success she celebrated and encouraged him, she wrote letters to labs about her son and his smarts and even got him the chance to work as an understudy at an observatory.

Ross Varstop - Lunwin’s father and the only thing keeping him from atrophying away in his labs. He pushes Lunwin to keep his body active and stay healthy, in not for muscles then at least to stay healthy and live long. He is a very warm person and built like a freight train that can crush you as he hugs you.

Julian Baylee - Lunwin’s friend and ever curious undergraduate who likes to see what Lunwin is doing. He majors in aerodynamics and only sees Lunwin in the related lab but when he does he is always friendly. Generally, Julian is friendly to everyone and isn’t afraid to make friends.
