It isn't a town, not even a village, it's a lonely cottage in the serene country side of the Alsace region in France... well, what is left of France. My family speak of the beauty that was our homeland before the Shattering War. I only have their word and pictures to go off of which isn't terrible but seeing how the land is now I still feel it is beautiful. Living in the isolated countryside can be a bit depressing with the closest neighbors being at least a couple of kilometers away but honestly, I like the solitude, it's nice and I don't have to deal with people bothering me.
The local community around where I live occasionally hosts markets where farmers and hunters can sell their produce. The markets are the most reliable way that my family and I earn money, but when we need to really earn some cash we travel to larger cities and make deals with butcher shops and grocery stores. In addition to selling produce, I can personally offer assistance in hunting down troublesome beasts and even some run of the mill crptids.
Aside from spending money on food and maintenance supplies, I do like to splurge on the occasional piece of art that one of the locals make. While I don't like talking to them, I do appreciate what they make with their creative heart.
My family used to be something more than just the modern equivalent of peasants! The legend of the first to the Corentin family name speaks of someone who held immense power and privilege, someone who was taken more seriously than a country bumkin. Practicing the ancient ways of our ancestors and returning us to our prime is all that matters, only then can we leave the generation long stupor of subsistence farming and mediocre lifespans. Even if it means taking down my enemies, leaving dead in my wake, I will do what is needed. Even if it means I end up with scars that run that depict countless near death experiences, experiences that leave me bleeding out or gasping for air.
When I was eight years old, my grandfather read me a bedtime story that was of the legend of Corentin, the Corentin that started our family over a millennia ago during the dark ages. Hearing the epic tales of his travels and how he slew great beasts and beings of nature alike was like opening a universe of possibilities for me! I had already been toying around with Archery as it had been our family practice every generation since the first Corentin, but I was fueled by renewed fervor to strive towards a new ambition. No longer was my mind stifled by our small world of farming and hunting, there was the goal of being a living legend!
