Morgan Sterling lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He lives there as he was born and raised in the city and hasn't bothered to move to a different state, let alone city. His apartment is very minimalistic, with only really the bare essentials for living. He has a TV that is barely used, and a couch where he spends most of his time researching things online. The most furbished place in his apartment would be his kitchen, which is always relatively clean but with a fair amount of dirty dishes at all times. His bedroom is plain with dark curtains draped over his small window to keep the light out of the room. He owns a smaller bed, which is slightly too small for his height. He has loud-stepping neighbors above him and party-goer neighbors below him, though he isn't too bothered by the noise. It helps drown out the silence of his bland life. However, he can never really get much sleep because of this.
Morgan works for his father's accounting firm that is on a steady, slight decline. He gets paid bi-weekly. He earns his honest living, albeit not that much and clocks out late each day due to guilt of not helping his father enough. After each shift, he frequents the nearby convenience store that holds some flavorless Pocky. If they're out of stock, he tends to go towards vanilla instead. Afterwards, he buys dinner supplies for the night and heads home. Morgan seldom goes out to restaurants or any sort of leisure, so has been getting an incline of money, some of which he sends back to his father's business. He spends some time researching market patterns to figure out the best investments of his extra income. Once setting aside an ample amount for savings, he pushes the rest into the best investment at the time and pulls from the previous investment to a usual slight increase in funds.
Morgan's freelance gig of being a Private Investigator for hire has seen too much of the blight on humanity and has caused him to lose faith in it. Not in a nihilistic way, but more in the lines of each human is selfish and would take any opportunity to break others for personal gain. Morgan always sees himself used as a tool for revenge or to cut someone down, but never to reveal the truth of schemes and actual practices that harm others. He strives to eventually find a way to analyze people for who they are, not what they say, and judge their souls accordingly. To Morgan, actions will always speak louder than words, and he has seen time and time again that people can and will use words of kindness and endearment, then pull out their metaphorical knife and take others out. Morgan would put his life on the line to find out the truth of people, anyone, everyone. Morgan sees himself as the Judge of People's lives, their actions, but not the Executioner. He leaves that job to karma and the victims of those the people have wronged. Every action will extract is dues.
The most defining event for Morgan was one of his first cases as a Private Investigator. He actually had to do some work on some big-shot politician that claimed to want the best for people but his practices told otherwise. Morgan found out the countless scandals about this Politician and what he'd done. He finished his work for the job, but continued looking into this guy. With each foot deeper into the rabbit hole, the more Morgan uncovered and was genuinely surprised that no one had said or done anything to this man yet. After amassing enough evidence to convict the Politician of all that he had done, he headed to the police station to file the report. He talked with a police officer for hours, about the job, about the stories he found, the shit he uncovered. The police took his report and his evidence and said they'd be in contact with him. Morgan waited. Days turned into weeks, turned into months, but finally received a call from someone. He answered it, hoping for some news regarding his statement. What he was met with was a static voice, clearly hiding the actual voice, telling him to "Stop digging before he ends up in that pit as well." Morgan seemed confused at first, but quickly put the connections together that his report and most likely his evidence were all gone. Afterwards, going to work the next morning, his father told him that almost half the shareholders for his company pulled out last night simultaneously. This caused the company to enter a steady decline. Morgan sighed, and told his father he'd work some extra hours to help stabilize the company.
The person Morgan is closest to is his father, Eric Sterling. Morgan's mother passed away as he was born so its been them two for Morgan's entire life. Nevertheless, Eric Sterling always made it his best to make sure Morgan had a good childhood, and was able to grow into a good man. Morgan worries for his father, working long hours to make ends meet, and that he needs to finally retire and live the life of leisure he should've been able to have. Morgan loves his father dearly, and would do nearly anything to keep his life smooth, to repay back the kindness Eric gave him.
Morgan has a coworker that is closest thing to a friend at work, named Cosgrove. He usually goes by Cos, as its easier for both of them. Cos has curly, blonde hair and blue eyes, and is always neatly dressed until work lets out. Cos is a spry, active man, a direct contrast to Morgan's tired, deadpan demeanor. But the two get along well. Once in a blue moon, Cos will convince Morgan to go out and get beers after work and talk about life. Morgan tends to keep to himself and drink little as to not reveal any private information. Cos, however, is an open book. He eats quickly, talks loudly, and has little to no shame about his life secrets. They get along quite will as an energetic and deprived duo, like a yin and yang.
The last person Morgan considers close would be the cashier lady at the supermarket he frequents, named Miranda. Miranda has long, wavy black hair and a few tattoos across her arms. Since he works long hours, he is usually there later into the night where she is working the night shift. Whenever he enters, she always seems to smile at him and ask him about his day, to which he gives short responses to. Morgan worries his blunt demeanor might put her off, but she tends to walk over and talk to him while he's shopping if the store isn't busy (It usually isn't.). Miranda always finds the time each day Morgan shows up to tease him about how tired he looks and that he should take a break sometime, to which Morgan always replies the same response to. Morgan enjoys her company and has thought often about asking her out to dinner at some point, but their time schedules just never really line up. Maybe a coffee sometime soon.
Morgan's childhood was okay, it wasn't be best, but it wasn't the worst. He never knew his mother, as she died giving birth to him. His father, however, is Eric Sterling. Eric spent Morgan's childhood working long hours in multiple jobs to get the money needed for Morgan to have a good childhood. However, since he was absent, Morgan never fully developed standard social skills, instead picking up how to read people very well. However, because of this, he didn't learn what to say and not say, which caused him to be a social outcast in school. Morgan didn't really mind as he saw all the other kids a "Fake people", seeing how they'd say they like someone, but then would always treat them poorly. Or inversely, would act nice around them, and then say rude things about them behind their back. Morgan quickly learned to never stir those pots of emotions and kept to himself. Morgan seldom talked to anyone, the only times he'd talk were if he was called on for a question, or worked in a group. Morgan maybe had 1 or 2 people he could consider friends, but as his popularity went down, his "friends" eventually stopped talking to him.
Morgan, growing up, never really felt a strong connection to anyone in his life, save for his father. That was until he got off a particularly irritating shift and entered the convenience store to see the Manager training a new lady with long, wavy black hair and reddish brown eyes. Morgan quickly shuffled past them, feeling his chest tighten looking at her, not knowing what was going on. The Manager, noticing Morgan finally, called out to him to which Morgan looked up and the Manager waved him over. The Manager introduced the lady, Miranda, to Morgan, to which Morgan gave her a curt nod before the Manager continued on about how Morgan is one of few nighttime customers. The Manager continued to Miranda about how Morgan always gets some flavorless Pocky, so Miranda needs to make sure that's always stocked up a little past 8 P.M. so Morgan can have his "fix". The Manager and Miranda would laugh a bit at that and Morgan's heart would skip a beat before laughing slightly with them. Morgan finished up his shopping and left the store in a slight hurry that time, getting home and call Cos, his good friend, initiating a conversation for once. Morgan would go on to explain the "symptoms" and ask if he's getting sick. Cos would laugh and explain that he's got a crush on the nightshift lady. Morgan would bluntly respond that that's impossible. Cos would laugh again and tell him to man up and ask her out. Morgan still has yet to do that since that conversation 6 months ago.
