Betty (Henry)'s Questionnaire

1. What town or city do you live in? Why do you live there instead of anywhere else? Describe your home.

Link Answered before Betty (Henry)'s first Contract.

She/He lives in London.
It gave him/her the best option for work (sadly only a nurse position)

Her/His home is a very basic room. it has a bed for 2, a stove, a counter  and a sink with an apron hanging off a hook next to the sink. Along with 2 cupboards above the sink and counter as well as 2 cupboards underneath the sink and counter. the rest of the room has just enough space for a small table enough for 4 people to eat at, along with 4 simple chairs, a chest at the foot of the bed full of bedding. As well as a closet, to the foot of the bed, with just enough space for a small dresser and a handful of clothes to be hung up as well as a small pantry next to the "kitchen" area. All with a door that leads to a very simple bathroom containing a bath/shower, a toilet with a mirror/medicine cabinet filled with simple(legal) medicines as well as makeup.

Underneath her/his bed and table/chair is a large rug. When the chair and table are moved off the rug completely and the rug is flipped you're able to access a loose wooden floor board, that goes underneath the bed, where she/he store their medical supplies.

*** SIDE NOTE ***
neighbors think Betty and Henry are lovers/married (whatever actually makes more rational sense)

2. How do you get your money right now? What do you spend it on?

Link Answered before Betty (Henry)'s first Contract.

she/he get most of her money from doing back lane surgeries with the gang that has taken "him" in as their surgeon, though she makes her legal money from the hospital she works at. everything left over she attempts to save for rainy days or whatever else she may need, especially considering he must work for the gang its always a safe bet to have extra money to throw around to get competitors/fellow gangster off their back.

her legal money she spends on day to day expenses (aka rent and food as well as
his not so legal money he spends on his medical supplies ( aka all the medicines and tools he needs for his nighttime surgeries )

3. Describe your Ambition. What are you striving for? How far would you go to achieve this? Would you kill for it? How close to death would you come for it?

Link Answered before Betty (Henry)'s first Contract.

Her ambition is truly simple. She simply wants to be recognized as a competent doctor preferably in her day job, but shed be satisfied with keeping her respect in the gang. neither of which he feels she can accomplish as of yet.

on one hand, among the field it is still extremely difficult to be even considered among the "legal" doctors

on the other hand, with the assumption made by the gang right off the bat of meeting her, she is afraid to admit to them that she simply dresses as a man to walk home for safety reasons, its potentially extremely dangerous. . . she is not sure how they would react.
Its strange to her she gained so much respect for bare minimum effort, when her whole carrier she put in so much effort and got no respect . . .

4. What was the most defining event of your life (before signing The Contract), and how did it change you?

Link Answered before Betty (Henry)'s first Contract.

the most defining even for her/him would depend on what aspect of their life.

When she got well above average while in school she was sure shed be able to find work as a doctor, especially considering Elizabeth Blackwell, born in england and went to school in the states. she was the first female doctors and she inspired Betty to become one. though sadly every place she applied to didnt even consider her. all but London. . . but even then all they offered her was a nurse job.

While working as a nurse in London she realized the walk from the hospital wasn't safe late at night. she quickly realized after multiple "incidents" looking as a women late at night came with inherent dangers. so she started dressing as a man, which was easy for her body type, which was very slender with sharp features. at first it started as making sure her hair was put up and tucked under a hat. but after multiple close calls with her hair falling out of the hat she just cut it. many other nurses asked about her hair being cut, often saying "how is a man every gonna love you like that", she told them it was simple due to it getting in the way and how it was tedious to keep up all day (which it definitely was but wasn't the actual reason that made her cut it all off) and that she wasn't concerned with what men want.
some time after cutting her hair she left the hospital (after changing in an empty room as well as washing all her makeup off) she left the hospital and started on her walk home. when she was interrupted by some random men (to be later known as gangsters) 3 of which where carrying a bleeding one. In a strange state of shock, instinct or possibly courage (she still isn't sure what caused her to act) she ran up and helped put pressure on the wound. They went into the basement of a building, she didn't even notice, she was to concerned with her patient. once down there she started to work to keep him alive without a word said. she was beyond focused. no words. just working. she managed to stabilize him. to her surprise. turns out he, and everyone else, was apart of a polish gang. they where very thankful but she was in a state of shock after finding out they are apart of a gang, or possibly after the whole situation. . . she couldn't be sure. either way she recognized they thought she was a man. . . she never said a word, so that makes sense, she has a very feminine voice. they just assumed she or he was mute. she didn't know how to process everything, none the less be able to explain to them she wasn't a man. when they asked her her name she panicked and just wrote down "Henry". since then she has worked on and off for this gang with no questions asked . . . as long as i can help someone, she told herself. but that was over a year ago. apparently thats a long time to live as a newbie in the gang work, they where all surprised, she was surprised. but now she is well respected as Henry and she has no idea how to correct the misunderstanding. . . or . . . if she should try to take this misunderstanding into her day life. . . it could be a easy way into being respected. . .

5. Name and briefly describe three people in your life. One must be the person you are closest to.

Link Answered before Betty (Henry)'s first Contract.

Donna Clemons, Head Nurse (closest person to Betty)
Donna took Betty under her wing in a sense as soon as she got hired.

When Betty first got hired she was very depressed, she worked so hard to become a doctor but she couldn't find anyone who'd take her in for the hands on experience she needed to become a full fledged doctor, Donna seemed to understand all this from the very second they met.

Donna helped Betty accept her situation for what it was, systematic and social oppression due to gender.
Betty always understood that would be an issue, it was always an issue in university, but with tuition payed and above average grades there wasn't much the system could do to her at that point, though the social aspect was glaringly obvious, what with being excluded from lab work and having to sit separated from the males of the classes. it wasn't until looking for work, she quickly realized, after countless rejections for below average male doctors that she started to realize she may never find work as a doctor. That was until she finally got accepted at a hospital! . . . as a nurse. that broke her spirit. she gave up and just took that option, she couldn't keep living off her parents, they always just wanted her to marry a wealthy man, after a while they would've been happy with ANY man. but that was never a concern for Betty. She wanted to support herself.
After leaving to London with a broken spirit all she could do was her job, and she threw herself into her work and was quickly recognized as a hard worker. her only solace was her small conversations with Donna. Donna always respected her and her insights, she would stand up for what Betty would advise even if it was against what the on site doctor recommended.Donna's support and care meant everything to Betty. But Betty would never go farther then professional with Donna, until Donna asked Betty to go out for dinner together after work. Initially she was hesitant and said she didn't really have time, but Donna insisted so she gave in. at first it felt awkward, but after a few drinks Betty loosened up. That lasted so late Betty ended staying at Donna's place for the night due to the possible dangers of an intoxicated women walking home alone. That was only the start of their friendship. Donna quickly become her confidant, her support, her truest friend.
Over time Betty learned that originally the hospital was going to simply reject Betty's application, until Donna saw her resume and demanded that she be hired on as a nurse.
Donna also often spoke of Elizabeth Blackwell. How that if it wasn't for her doctors would still not be washing their hands between patients, and how she became a professor of gynecology at the new London School of Medicine for Women (Betty always dreamed of going to that school, though at the time her parents refused to let her move there alone without a husband) these talks really inspired Betty slowly but surely.

Antoni Nowak
Antoni has only ever know Betty as Henry, the silent surgeon.
She met him after aiding an injured man in the middle of the night being carried away by 3 men she immediately jumped into action (((as previously mentioned in another question))) After that incident before she (he in the gangs perspective) could leave she was brought to Antoni. He was very jovial and expressed great gratitude to her/him. He also said he could give them a connection to someone who would know someone to supply more medical equipment to them, as a thank you for helping his people. ((See Johnny the dock manager)) After that incident Antoni would occasionally send his men to meet him/her on his/her walks home (out of respect(or simply due to him always simply agreeing to aid his gang without question & simple acceptance) he never sent anyone to his home due to his "lover Betty" being seen to live there as well... or possibly out of respect?
[im drunk while writing this so kinda vague with reasons,, i just genuinely don't think Betty/Henry would know aka idfk lmfao but even if i did know why, that's just their general thought process so why go into EXACT reasons, this way you have more leeway into doing fucked but awesome shit lmfaoooo,,, like maybe he already knows they're the same person and is just holding that in their back pocket for blackmail somehow idk???])
Antoni has always been very kind a jovial over the time they have known him. For Betty/Henry(going to be refereed to Henry and he/him for simplicity sake) that was strange to him, they've become accustomed to men either being dismissive, sexual insistent or simply put aggressive. it was very strange to him. though through working for Antoni and meeting many the people that work for him, he started to realize that he was being treated this way due to him being perceived as a man and not a women.
[at least that what they think,, there could be an ulterior motive?? DUN DUN DUUUUN . . .  idk . . . maybe i shouldn't drink while writing these . . . lmfao fuck tho its easier and more fun + you can ignore my random anecdotes . . .? idk if that word is being used correctly (in this context but i feel like you'd understand either waaay)((god damn a full bottle of wine makes me ramble,,, i would like to apologize for my rambling though,, buuut i also feel like you might find them funny so ima leave them in just in case you do))]
Eventually Antoni brought Henry in for a talk. It was about Antoni's son Cedrick. His son had a weak constitution, and was often sick due to it. Antoni wanted Henry to be one of his on call doctors.
All in all their relationship isnt very close per say but it is a mostly positive one. Antoni pays them well and treats them with kindness and respect, and Henry gets what he needs to get done/what he can to to the best of his abilities and resources.
