Circumstances

Average
Given by Metal
You can live stably off your money. You have access to $2,500 (or equivalent currency) per Contract.
Database: Life Insurance Info for all of his past clients. Can include stuff like their history of car accidents, credit card spending history etc. Stuff that his insurance company (former) employer would have wanted to know.
From Assets and Liabilities
You have access to a specific database of non-public information. As long as you have internet access or cell service, you may search for relevant information in your database. GMs may require you to make a roll and/or spend a significant amount of time for particularly complex or nuanced information requests, at their discretion.

Conditions

From Assets and Liabilities
Focused You are able to remain focused despite your circumstances and surroundings. Any Mind Penalty you have is reduced by 2.
Iron Will When you are determined and your mind is set, nothing can sway you from your goals. You receive +2 dice to all Mind rolls.
From Maelstrom
Maria's Revenge Description: Every time you fall asleep, you risk a form of sleep paralysis – you cannot move, can barely breathe, & cannot quite open your eyes – you then feel the cold flesh of Maria Villalobos-Cunningham crawl on top of you, straddling your chest. If you don't wake up in time, you will hear the “click” of a hammer pulled back, & feel the barrel of the dueling pistol pressed over your heart... System: Anytime you sleep on Contract or Sidegame, roll 1d10 – on a “1” you will need to roll Body (DC: 8). A success sees you waking up just in time – you suffer 1 Mind damage & will not be able to sleep for the next 12 hours. If you fail, you suffer a Severity 4 Injury in the form of a Sudden Heart Attack, & cannot sleep as above. On a Botch, add the number of “1s” rolled to the Severity of the Heart Attack injury.

Powers

David holds up a scrap of bloody Tshirt, and focuses on the memories of his dead son, calling his spirit to him. Bobby’s spirit appears as a flickering overlay on top of David’s body, and can talk. However, Bobby’s spirit looks exactly as his body did in the aftermath of the car crash that killed him.

Exert your Mind and spend a Quick Action to activate. You must actively and obviously use A scrap of the T-shirt Bobby was wearing the day he died. David will have one on his person, and a bunch of these at home from which he can requisition one over a Downtime. to activate this Effect.

You transform into Possessed by Bobby’s Ghost, obviously and visibly for 30 minutes. You have access to all of your Powers while you are Possessed by Bobby’s Ghost, obviously and visibly, and you can use your equipment. Your Battle Scars, Injuries, and physical Liabilities are carried over between forms. While transformed, your Intellect is increased by 1.

Your alternate form is its own deadly weapon. Unarmed attacks made in your alternate form deal +3 Bonus Damage (instead of the typical -2).

Anyone who witnesses you during this Effect's activation or for its duration will almost certainly be disturbed to see Bobby appears hovering and flickering as an outline over David’s form, looking exactly as he did the way he died: A 16 year old boy, covered in cuts and bruises, with lifeless eyes and a snapped neck..

  • Reminder: Bonus Damage from multiple sources does not stack. Instead, the highest Bonus is used.
  • When narrating disturbing content, be cognizant of your group's tone and accommodating to those who would like to "fast forward" through the description.
  • Attribute bonuses from multiple sources do not stack. Instead the highest bonus is used.

David will reach into a seam, and pull out a ghost of the departed alongside one of their treasured possessions. David will wrestle the ghost, taking their possession from them, and the covetous spirit will dissipate, defeated. If David fails his check, the spirit will instead jealously hold on to its item as it flees back to the temporary seam in the air, disappearing back to the realm of the dead. When the effect runs out, the item will seem to disappear into thin air, as it is pulled back to the realms of the dead

David did some digging into more…unrefined necromancy, following his last encounter with such magics on a job. By using his spirit cellphone (see Thomas Edison’s spirit cellphone) to consult with a few ancient spirits of infamous necromancers past, he was able to learn a ritual to “plunder the treasures of the underworld”.

Exert your Mind and spend 1 minute.

Choose an Object which could fit inside a regular backpack (up to 27 liters). It must be Non-Alien and generic. You cannot create explosives. You may create firearms.

Roll Brawn + Occult to fabricate your chosen Object. The Difficulty is assigned by the GM and depends on the specificity of your chosen Object. The created item lasts 2 hours.

Anyone who witnesses you during this Effect's activation or for its duration will almost certainly be disturbed to see Theft from the spirits of the dead and the injured, creepy as hell appearance of the ghosts of the departed.

  • When narrating disturbing content, be cognizant of your group's tone and accommodating to those who would like to "fast forward" through the description.
  • The Difficulty for the fabrication roll increases based on specificity. Something like a "shirt" would be Difficulty 5, whereas "Police uniform" would be Difficulty 9. The Outcome determines overall quality and how well the item fits the request.
  • You can fabricate a container of something so long as it contains a single type of thing (such as a tank of water) or it is designed to be packaged together (such as a first aid kit).

Legendary Artifacts

Thomas Edison’s Spirit Cellphone

Created and held by David Vance.
A BlackBerry cellphone with two options for calls. “Dial Up”, and “Contacts List”. The back of the phone has an artwork of a skull inside a lightbulb etched into it as some kind of company logo.

David pulls a what looks to be a BlackBerry cellphone out of his pocket, but it has an eerie design on the back of it….a skull, inside a lightbulb, whose vacant sockets seem to stare into yours. The phone puts out only static on one end, but then quietly through its speaker comes the voice of someone you know to be deceased. David speaks as if this is just a normal work conversation, hangs up the call, and puts the phone away in his bag.

(From user manual that was shipped with the phone) “Here at Spectrum S our researchers have combined the research of Thomas Edison’s spirit phone with the reliability and the durability of a modern cellphone! Putting the power to speak to the dead right in our user’s hands, Spectrum S has built you the best NecroTech spectral engineering can devise! Thomas Edison would be proud! But don’t take our word for it, call him up and take his!”
*Spectrum S is not liable for harms, damages, or unintended consequences of speech with the deceased. Thomas Edison’s Spirit Cell Phone(TM) is not warranty secured.*

Expend a point of Battery and spend an Action to activate. Select a Dead target of which you have Full true name and date of birth OR phone number.

The target can communicate in your language for the next hour.

  • You can target yourself if you qualify as a valid target by the other requirements.
  • Your target must be within line of sight, or within range of another sense if more fitting for the Gift's flavor.

Crafted Artifacts

Body-Stabilizing Band

Created and held by David Vance.
Synchronizes a person’s “shell”, the outline of their soul, with their body to keep them focused. Appears as a metal band bracelet with a human outline shaped hole in it.

When the band made by the above ritual is worn, it occasionally (every 4 hours or so) briefly flashes a translucent outline of its wielder’s body at peak condition (this is their “elemental”, the shell or outline of their soul), and the wielder is able to focus as if they themselves were at peak condition.

The band captures a person’s elemental, the shell of a person’s soul that is left behind in its movement, according to some of the occultist Helena Blavatsky’s teachings. By briefly redisplaying this shell over the user’s form, the user can synchronize their body with their soul at a healthier time.

You gain the following benefits as long as you are wearing this Artifact.

Your Body Penalty is reduced to 0. Does not reduce Mind Penalty.

Body and Mind Stabilizing Band

Created and held by David Vance.
Body and Mind Stabilizing Band: Synchronizes a person’s “shell”, the outline of their soul, with their body and now mind (thanks to a necromantic technique for Soul finding that seeks out a more complete version of a person’s “elemental) to keep them focused. Appears as a metal band bracelet with a human outline shaped hole in it, with a halo having been carved out around the head of the outline. A small maker’s mark on the inner rim reads “1”

Trophies

Trophies are special objects and equipment.

Because Trophies may have GM-created systems, they also record the Playgroup they were acquired in.

Biography

David Vance lost his son Bobby in a tragic car accident 3 years ago, when Bobby was 16. Just learning how to drive, Bobby ran a red light and was struck by a speeding Pickup truck. Both Bobby and the truck’s driver were killed in the collision. In the 3 years since, David has continued his work as a life insurance agent while desperately researching into the occult, searching for a miraculous way to bring his son back to life. His desperate research led his wife, Melanie, to divorce him (he was spending too much time obsessing over the occult and mourning than on being a husband to her). They have since become bitter exes. David has recently moved to LA, and taken on a new job.
