“Start Recording, Log one. The Date is October 12th, 2023. My name is Jessica Hope. This is a record of the strange and potentially supernatural happenings and creatures I’ve encountered. I suppose I should start with my only confirmed anomaly I have to talk about: Myself.”
“I grew up all around East Texas, and when I was younger, maybe 12, I had a dream. I was standing in a clearing and looking up at a stormy night sky. And over the trees, over the horizon, spanning the dark sky filled with purple lightning, was the darker shape of a great black bird. Like a raven or crow. I used to have those dreams a lot. Sometimes I was running, alone or with others. Sometimes I’d be talking to them, or they’d be helping me up.”
“So quite a few months after the first dream, I moved. And when I got there, I felt something off, and couldn’t tell what until I had the dream again. That field I was running through, I recognized that it was the same one as the one in front of my new house. And as the dreams went on, so did their prophetic nature. Though always afraid.”
“And one night, I wasn’t afraid. I climbed a tree in that dream, full of cold clarity. And I leaped up to slam my fist into the bird, but before I could make contact, I was pushed from the dream, and I awoke from the best sleep I ever had. I didn’t have the dream after that. For years. Until last year, I collapsed unexpectedly at work. The doctors said it’s a tumor on the hypothalamus of my brain, the part that regulates, alongside other things, sleep. It’s given me a nasty case of Narcolepsy, with intense bouts of sleepwalking. They can’t do much about it, because of how deep it is in the brain.”
“But anyways, that’s when the dreams started up again, more intense, more vibrant, more revealing. I could see them where they slept, I could see their deepest desires, all with that looming shape of the bird in the background.”
“Rather these are just tricks of the mind, or actual prophecy, I can not tell, as I have never acted on them. But I feel like it can’t be coincidence.”
“End Recording.”
