Circumstances

Circumstances describe your situation.

Examples include enemies, wealth, notoriety, social status, contacts, fame, and imprisonment.

Because each Playgroup has its own setting, Circumstances record the Playgroup they were acquired in.

Finances: Poor
From Assets and Liabilities
You are completely incapable of holding onto money. You start each Contract with 1d10 x10 dollars in cash.

Conditions

Conditions describe your state of being.

Examples of Conditions include curses, diseases, and impactful personality quirks.

Conditions are granted by Assets and Liabilities or by GMs based on the events of Contracts and Downtime activities like Moves, and Loose Ends.

Because Conditions may have GM-created systems, they also record the Playgroup they were acquired in.

From Assets and Liabilities
Beautiful You're quite the specimen! Rolls where your good looks could help– be it via sexual attraction, first impression, or trustworthiness– are at -2 Difficulty. Social interactions should be role-played accordingly. Effect activations are unaffected.
Focused You’re cool under pressure. Stress from Mind Damage is reduced by 2.

Loose Ends

Loose Ends will cause problems for you if you don't tie them up.

Examples of Loose Ends include enemies, debts, evidence, and promises.

All Loose Ends have a Cutoff that counts down each time you attend a Contract. When it hits zero, the Threat of your Loose End manifests, causing issues for your Contractor.

You cannot see the current values of your Loose Ends' Cutoffs, but you can take initiative and make Moves on your Downtimes to deal with them before time runs out.

Biography

Lain Manning is, all things considered, a relatively normal teenage girl. She's a junior in highschool, a part-time diner hostess, and even a former dance team-member.

On the down-low, though, she's also an armchair detective.

Every girl has a hobby, and that's Lain's. In particular, she's digging through the ugly secrets that are too easily swept under the rug. There's some real filth in humanity, and Lain wants to bring it to surface and cut it out, root and stem.

It's obviously not easy for her. She has school. She has bills. She's only got her mom, now, and Lain needs to be there for her when she can't take care of herself. Beyond that, though, she has a drive and a distrust that's with her, always. Even if her grades start to slip or she needs to find a new job, even if her loved ones (or the ones that are left) get hurt in the process, Lain's got a job to do.

There's two types of people you find after a storm ruins their life: the people who sit in the wreckage and pretend that nothing's changed, and the people who clear the debris and start to rebuild. Of course, sometimes people don't do either. Sometimes people, like Lain, chase the storm until it's through.
