Norman Badeaux was born in the deep bayous of Louisiana, where old world Catholicism mixed with stories of the loup-garou, the Cajun werewolf. Raised by his grandmother, a stern and devout woman, Norman grew up hearing tales of monsters that walked the swamps and the people who fought them. These stories left a deep impression on him, instilling a belief that power is neither good nor evil but is, sometimes, monstrous. His childhood was hard—marked by poverty, labor, and a rough neighborhood where the strong preyed on the weak. It was in those formative years that Norman developed his sense of justice, alongside a growing internal anger he’d come to harness in his first murder - and that would force his departure from Louisiana.
Seeking a new start, Norman moved to New York City in his twenties, trading the swamps for concrete. He found work in construction and building maintenance, eventually founding Luna Building Maintenance, which became both a legitimate business and a front for his side activities. By day, he was a hardworking blue-collar man, but by night, he hunted those the law couldn’t reach—the abusers, bullies, and monsters hiding in plain sight. The move to New York also reawakened something darker within him — the same eldritch beast that appeared in Louisiana, born out of his rage and desire for justice, that transformed him into something more than human. It was a curse, a gift, and a constant battle between his human morals and bestial instincts. Norman’s powers draw heavily from his spiritual connection to ghosts of the land, former users of the Eldritch Beast form, called Elders, mystical forefathers present in his dreams that offer guidance and offer advice.
His character design was influenced by the "Abomination" archetype in Darkest Dungeon and true crime stories: they give him the power to turn his inner beast loose on the worst kinds of monsters. But with great power comes great cost, and Norman constantly walks the line between justice and brutality, protector and predator.
