Circumstances

Circumstances describe your situation.

Examples include enemies, wealth, notoriety, social status, contacts, fame, and imprisonment.

Because each Playgroup has its own setting, Circumstances record the Playgroup they were acquired in.

Notoriety: Ray has been in many brawl fights in his past. As such, he once broke a very important business person’s nose, ending up on the news. He was only 17, so he was on forced labor for a year, never actually ending up in jail. Still, people remember that
From Assets and Liabilities
You are easily recognized and treated badly by the public at large due to something bad in your past. There is a strong hatred of you in English speaking cultures, and anyone who watches the news or is tuned in to popular culture will reflect that attitude. You get -3 dice for any rolls in social situations, and must roleplay your notorious status when relevant.
Finances: Average
From Assets and Liabilities
You can live stably off your money. You have access to $2,500 (or equivalent currency) per Contract.

Conditions

Conditions describe your state of being.

Examples of Conditions include curses, diseases, and impactful personality quirks.

Conditions are granted by Assets and Liabilities or by GMs based on the events of Contracts and Downtime activities like Moves, and Loose Ends.

Because Conditions may have GM-created systems, they also record the Playgroup they were acquired in.

From Assets and Liabilities
Vengeful An insult to or an attack on your person simply cannot be tolerated. Each time someone wrongs you or disrespects you in a major way, you must succeed a Self-Control roll to resist taking revenge.
Swimmer's Build You are built for the water. +2 dice to any rolls relating to swimming. Actions performed in water have their penalty reduced by 1.
Avoidance You are so off-putting, that most people just avoid you. As long as your Charisma rating is 1, you may Exert your Mind to cause someone to ignore or avoid you in a social situation. Any Stealth rolls you make as a part of that attempt get +2 to their Outcome.
Pack Beast You're built to carry and haul. You can carry 25 pounds per point of Brawn without being encumbered instead of the usual 15.
Short Fuse You have major issues controlling your temper. Whenever tensions run high or someone disrespects you, you must roll Self-Control not to escalate the situation or have a violent reaction.
Illiterate Your reading and writing are rudimentary at best. If you are capable of reading or writing at all, it is restricted to 5-6 year old level.
Ugly A hideous disfigurement makes your appearance disturbing and memorable. Any rolls that involve physical appearance in some way are at +2 difficulty. Social interactions should be roleplayed with this Condition in mind.

Loose Ends

Loose Ends will cause problems for you if you don't tie them up.

Examples of Loose Ends include enemies, debts, evidence, and promises.

All Loose Ends have a Cutoff that counts down each time you attend a Contract. When it hits zero, the Threat of your Loose End manifests, causing issues for your Contractor.

You cannot see the current values of your Loose Ends' Cutoffs, but you can take initiative and make Moves on your Downtimes to deal with them before time runs out.

Biography

Ray is an orphan. Grew up in the orphanage with his sister, Lily, who was 2 years older than him. When he was 15, there was a fire in the orphanage, started by one of the kids who smoked. It ended up burning most of the orphanage, leaving Ray and Lily separated. Once the flames died down, Ray tried to find Lily, but the people who worked there wouldn’t let him near, reassuring him his sister would be found, and he got sent away, to a new orphanage. To this day, Ray believes his sister is alive, but life must go on regardless. He is a blacksmith, though business is slow. He hopes that if he is able to get enough money, he’ll be able to hire a private investigator to find his sister.
