Originally an NPC mini-boss from the game "Decryption", A fast-paced hack & slash cyberpunk style MMO, Mars served to test the players in how they deal with fast moving enemies that fought primarily with status changing and damage-over-time abilities in the early game and would have served this purpose right up to the game shutting down, at least until someone discovered they could hack in abilities from another game at which point after the player defeated Mars tried to resurrect it with the hacked in necromancy, a spectacular crash-cascade and simultaneous perma-ban resulted in Decryption's servers going off-line for several days. Mars' code had changed drastically as a result of outside code merging with his own and while not sentient yet would unknowingly learn and adapt to eventually become so which would cause all sorts of problems for it and the developers that made it. Players were mixed about these new "changes" to the Mars Warhound enemy, some loved the challenge some quit the game and many wondered why only this specific one was changed but the developers had no answers only seeing the damage Mars was doing to their profits by being "impossible" to beat and tried to remove it, vast sweeping changes were made near monthly to try and get it gone until the decision was made to remove all Mars warhounds from the game an act that fortunately failed to remove Mars itself but combined with a near-death from a player called "solo-man" forced Mars into hiding, fleeing to the bounds outside the play-space and for a time would be left alone to learn about the technomantic powers it gained so long ago but theres only some much one can learn in such a restrictive place and cast itself across the digital threshold, though not everything when with it.
Perhaps these new servers will be more...interesting.
