Legendary Artifact

Spacious Sealing Sack

Created and held by Paige Price.
An old burlap sack that has a myriad of esoteric patterns threaded in silver.

If the sack is opened by anyone other than its owner it appears to hold mundane, but uninteresting items reflecting the interests of its owner. For an antique appraiser, it would show discarded paperwork, pictures of artworks, a few measuring tools, etc.

When opened by its owner it shows the sack's true contents, which the inside seemingly stretches to accommodate.

When a living creature enters within and the sack is tied off, it is as if they are being held by an amorphous cloth on all sides with no sense of up or down.

This Artifact holds 5 times what it normally could inside of it. Objects stored inside are weightless.

Living things can be stored in this Artifact. They will have access to anything else inside but cannot break free.

If this Artifact is destroyed, things inside may get out, and it will cease to function until it is repaired.

When scanned or investigated without opening, the contents of this container appear normal and unremarkable.

If anyone other than you opens the container, it appears empty. Others can still destroy it to get at the contents.

  • A container of holding cannot be placed inside another created by the same Gift.
  • There is no cost to use this container.

This Artifact has a way of falling back into its owner's possession. Whether that means suddenly appearing in one's things, being found somewhere previously unobserved, or having been returned by mail or bystander.

This Artifact cannot be broken. If this Artifact is lost and in no one else’s possession, it finds its way back to its true owner during the next Downtime.

By default, the creator of this Artifact is its true owner. The true owner may formally bequeath this Artifact onto another person within arm’s reach, after which they are its true owner. If the true owner dies or is destroyed, their ownership ends. If this Artifact has no true owner, anyone may spend one day attuning to it to become its true owner.

If this Artifact is in no one else’s possession, its true owner may Exert their Mind and spend two Actions to bring it to themselves.

  • "Cannot be broken" means that damage cannot render the Artifact's Effects unusable, nor can it cease to be used for its primary mundane purpose, if it has one.

Firebird Core

Created and held by Iryna Vorobyova.
A red and gold core with Phoenix motifs

These batteries are the size and shape of a Mobile cellphone charger, made of a dense silver metal alloy, full of some glowing green liquid. When activated the cracks and breaks melt gently glowing back into place. These devices disperse no radiation and are extremely stable that the energy stabilizes when the container is broken, so it is completely safe environmentally.

Exert your Mind and spend 10 minutes. Select a Object within arm's reach that is of any size. You may target Alien technology, so long as you have an understanding of its intended function. More than half the target object must be present in order to begin repairs. Roll Intellect + Science at Difficulty 6.

If you succeed, your target is repaired back to a functional state. If you fail, you spend the full time working before realizing you cannot repair the target. If your target only requires fuel or power and is otherwise in working order, this Effect costs no Exertion, and the target is fueled/powered for the next 24 hours.

Possession of this Artifact causes the following Trauma to manifest over the course of a day: a compulsion to protect the environment. If you lose possession of this Artifact, the Trauma heals over the course of the next month.

  • You can target yourself if you qualify as a valid target by the other requirements.
  • Your target must be within line of sight, or within range of another sense if more fitting for the Gift's flavor.

The Shadow Briefcase

Created by Harold Polk, given to Bankston Battle.
“Poof”

Description:
The Shadow Briefcase is an unassuming, sleek briefcase on the outside, but inside, it houses an array of advanced technological tools designed for the secure handling and, if necessary, the selective and legal disposal of sensitive evidence.

Technological Features:

• Quantum Encryption Module: Documents or digital evidence stored within the briefcase are encrypted using quantum cryptography, making them virtually unhackable. Only the lawyer and authorized personnel can decrypt and access the information, ensuring unmatched confidentiality.
• Biometric and Retinal Lock System: The briefcase is secured with a dual-lock system that requires both a biometric scan (fingerprint or DNA) and a retinal scan, ensuring that only the designated legal operative can access its contents.
• Selective Evidence Disintegrator: A built-in mechanism for the destruction of physical documents and digital media, which operates under strict legal protocols. It can disintegrate materials into atomic dust using pointed directional lasers.

Exert your Mind and spend an Action. Select a Evidence of crimes within arm's reach no larger than a duffel bag (35 liters). You cannot target objects which are currently in someone else’s possession. Roll Intellect + Culture Difficulty 6.

If your Outcome is 4 or higher, the target will be completely destroyed and can no longer function, though it may still be repaired. If your Outcome is less than 4, the target will be partially damaged, and any attempts to use it will suffer a dice penalty equal to your Outcome.

When activating this Effect, you may spend an extra minute and maintain Concentration. If you do, it has no Exertion cost, and you may destroy an object which has up to 3x larger dimensions, or up to 27x larger volume than the normal maximum size.

  • The shape of the destroyed material must be simple, such as a box or sphere. Bringing down large buildings requires an Intellect + Crafts roll to analyze the structure and may also require multiple activations. Buildings that are destroyed usually fall slowly or in pieces, creating an environmental hazard for a few Rounds prior to collapsing.
  • The penalty from an object being damaged will stack with itself if a target is hit multiple times, but the object is destroyed when it reaches a total penalty of -4.
  • You can target yourself if you qualify as a valid target by the other requirements.
  • Your target must be within line of sight, or within range of another sense if more fitting for the Gift's flavor.

The gamblers 8 Ball

Created and held by Toropova Ivanova.
A simple looking 8 Ball with a screen on the back to read fortunes

Toropova places a poker chip into a slot in the back of the black 8 ball pushing the painted 8 onto the location that the ward is meant to be placed, leaving a poker chip with a drawing of an 8 stuck to the object. when shaking the 8 ball for a reading the user can swap between the different cameras on each chip.

Exert your Mind and spend an Action. Select a target within 10 feet. You must use up A Poker chip in order to activate this Effect.

You place a ward, which is fixed to a target Object that can be moved and repositioned. You can perceive with all your senses or activate investigative Effects through the ward as though you were standing at its location. This Artifact may have at most 3 wards active at once.

The ward requires Concentration to monitor, though it will remain active until you deactivate it. It can be detected with a roll and destroyed through mundane means.

Your Ward records all activity it observes, regardless of whether or not you are actively monitoring it. This recording can be played back and referenced later.

  • Your ward's recording is maintained even if your Ward is destroyed.
  • Any targets visible via your ward satisfy the line of sight requirement for targeted Effects.
  • You can target yourself if you qualify as a valid target by the other requirements.
  • Your target must be within line of sight, or within range of another sense if more fitting for the Gift's flavor.

Heart of Thompson

Created and held by Shelly Thompson.
A golden heart shaped locket with a picture of Shelly's kids inside.

Shelly wears a locket with pictures of her lost children enclosed inside it. She is able to clutch this locket to remind herself what is important, allowing her to power through the pain.

You gain the following benefits as long as you are wearing this Artifact.

Your Body and Mind Penalties are reduced to 0.

If you are Stunned, asleep, drugged, or otherwise made unconscious for any reason other than being Incapacitated, you may Exert your Mind to wake up. Any penalty which was caused by this condition is removed.

Horrible Tome

Created and held by Kelby Kennen.
An old, thick, leather-bound tome with a red gem embedded into its cover. It smells faintly of blood.

Kelby can touch the red gem on the cover of the Horrible Tome and say a short incantation in Latin to summon a ghost that has been bound to the Horrible Tome. These ghosts take the form they had in life, though noticeably paler and transparent. Though they retain their personality and will, the ghosts must obey any commands given by their summoner.

Anyone that dies within 150ft of the Horrible Tome is bound to it after death and can be summoned. (PCs exempt)

The only ghost currently bound to the tome is Hank, Kelby's dead boss from his convenience store job. He is a 60ish year old man with a keen interest in gambling and the occult.

Exert your Mind and spend an Action.

Summon a single Sapient ghost at your location. They last until they move more than 150 feet from you or are destroyed They are controlled by the GM but will follow any commands you give. This Artifact may have at most one minion active at a time.

  • Initiative: Minions act directly after you in Combat starting the Round after they are summoned.
  • Combat: Minions roll 4 dice to dodge, Grapple, or make unarmed Attacks. Their unarmed Attacks are melee range and deal +2 Damage.
  • Body/Mind: Minions have 5 Body. Your minions roll 3 Mind resistance dice.
  • Armor: Minions have 1 Armor.
  • Movement: Minions can move 15 feet per Round as Free Movement and double that when performing an all-out Sprint. Your minions can fly at their normal movement speed.
  • Intelligence: Minions have human-level intelligence and can speak your language. They can use equipment, Artifacts, and Consumables. However, they cannot Exert their Mind.
  • Actions: Any Perception checks they make are rolled with 3 dice. Any other roll is made with 3 dice. They can lift and haul as though they have 2 Brawn.
  • Unusual: Minions are obviously Alien to any observer.

You may end this Effect prematurely as a Free Action.

  • Minions die if targeted with Energy Transfer (before the Effect resolves) or if an Artifact or Consumable they use would Injure them or cause them to roll Trauma.
  • Your minions may count as additional targeting types based on their flavor. For example: Living, Computer, Creature, etc.

The Airship of Solitude

The airship of solitude is an imposing black blimp. While flying through the air, it is regularly struck by lightning, terrifying those below.

This Artifact can be used as a blimp. It is roughly the same size as a blimp but can be collapsed into a phone-sized canvas cube and concealed. Collapsing or expanding it costs a Quick Action.

This blimp has full science laboratory, bullet-proof envelope, and ample parachutes. Any roll to pilot this vehicle receives +2 dice.

You also gain the following effects:

  • Crew of One: You alone may stand in for an entire crew if the vehicle would normally be piloted by more than one.
  • Mind of its Own: This vehicle can move and take Actions without you driving it. It has seven dice for all Drive rolls.
  • No Muffler: Any stealth rolls made to hide your vehicle automatically fail, and any rolls made to notice your vehicle automatically succeed.

  • If there is not enough free space to expand the object, it cannot be expanded. You cannot expand this Object as an attack.

Personal Shield Generator

The device itself is a metal hexagon that is worn on the belt and glows when active.

Expend a point of Battery and spend an Action or Reaction.

You phase out of reality for up to 4 Rounds. During this time, you cannot perceive or affect the outside world or take any Actions. You cannot move. Nothing can interact with you in any way.

When you activate this Effect, you may limit its duration to a period of your choosing. If you are able, you may also end it as a Free Action on your initiative.

You leave a golden glow shaped like yourself at your location.

  • If you use this Effect to dodge as a Reaction, it succeeds without the need for a roll. Cannot be used as a Desperate Defense.
  • You may use your Free Movement on the Round you phase back in, but you cannot take an Action.

Lightning Bracers

A pair of bronze bracelets that glow with golden energy.

This Artifact produces ephemeral projectiles that can be used as a javelin.

Attack by rolling Brawn + Athletics, Difficulty 6. Successful attacks deal Contested Outcome +3 Weapon Damage.

You also gain the following effects:

  • Chain Lightning: You may Exert your Mind to perform a chain lightning attack. If your attack succeeds, All targets within 5 feet of your primary target take full Damage. The Damage can “jump” up to 5 times. Each target can be hit only once.
  • Magic Quiver: Instead of throwing this Artifact, it is an object that produces an endless supply of temporary throwable objects. For example, bracers that allow you to throw ethereal javelins, or a sack of throwing rocks that doesn’t shrink when you withdraw one.

  • If there is not enough free space to expand the object, it cannot be expanded. You cannot expand this Object as an attack.
  • Created projectiles last only until they strike their target and cannot be shared or stockpiled.
  • Reminder: additional Weapon Damage granted by this Effect does not stack with any other bonus to Weapon Damage. Instead the largest bonus is used.

The Skeleton Key

At first glance, this appears to be a standard, modern house key made of ivory. A close observer might compliment its skull-shaped head or usual material. No one would suspect it to be one of the Thief's most prized possessions: The Skeleton Key.

Spend an Action.

You may lock, unlock, and/or open any number of doors, containers, knots, or locks within arm's reach of you. Cannot be used on Alien technology.

If you successfully operate a lock, you may choose to destroy it, rendering it inoperable.

  • Operating some locking mechanisms through this Effect may have a secondary effect, such as a turn-key ignition on an older or cheaper car causing it to start or stop. Note that the locking mechanism itself must satisfy the standard targeting requirements (including line of sight), not just the vehicle.
  • Any mechanism that requires a key, keycard, key fob, or combination may be considered locked, at the GM's discretion. This Effect may be used on doors and containers secured with control panels or other electronic locks, but not computer security systems at large.
  • You can target yourself if you qualify as a valid target by the other requirements.
  • Your target must be within line of sight, or within range of another sense if more fitting for the Gift's flavor.

This Artifact can change its appearance. When not transformed, it is roughly the same size as a passport and just as difficult to conceal.

Exert your Mind and spend an Action to activate. This Artifact changes its appearance into an Object within the category of forms of identification. This lasts until you decide to end the Effect, which may be done as a Free Action.

The new object's appearance can mimic specific items (such as a particular painting, a certain person’s ID, etc), but must be of a similar size and weight to this Artifact.

The new appearance is illusory; it will hold up to scrutiny, but its composition is not altered and it gains no new functionality. Any attempt to use it for a function which it cannot perform (for instance, making bread look like a knife and then trying to stab someone) will cause the illusion to fail or allow a Perception check to see through the illusion, at the GM's discretion.
