The Lake Lord narrows its eyes in concentration, and the borders of its liquid body begin to shift and shimmer while Brooke holds up a colander for it to see. After activation, the Lake Lord looks the same, but can maintain its form as it passes through anything that water could pass through.
The Lake Lord, indeed, is made of water. It's force of will is what allows it to create a semi-physical form, and maintaining that will becomes second nature. It takes time to lower those barriers to the self, allowing itself to diffuse itself and return to it's primordial form of water.
The colander looks out of place, but is actually the method by which Brooke coaches the Lake Lord through the process of loosening it's form.
